Talbot came to Hampden-Sydney from Tsing Kiang Pu, China, where his father was a missionary. He won the Virginia State singles title three times and teamed with Rogers Thomas to win the doubles championship three years in a row. He also teamed with W.D. Sloan to win the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament at The Greenbrier in West Virginia in the early 1930's. A two-sport athlete, he played basketball in 1932, helping the Tigers to a 9-6 overall record and wins over Roanoke, Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon, and William and Mary. Talbot is deceased.
