HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 5 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday afternoon, February 8, at 4:30 p.m. in Bridgewater. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 18-3 overall, 11-1 in the ODAC, following a 66-47 conference home win past (RV)Virginia Wesleyan University on Feb. 5 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House—their eighth-straight win and 10th win in the last 11 games. The Eagles are 8-13 overall, 3-9 in the ODAC, after a 70-62 home loss to Eastern Mennonite University on Feb. 5 in Bridgewater—their fifth-straight loss and ninth loss in the last 11 games. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Bridgewater Eagles Sports Network.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 101-41 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.711) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 18.8 points (37 3FGs, 85% FTs), 3.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 12.7 points (56% FGs), 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 10.1 points (41 3FGs-45%). Other top contributors include freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (7.2 points, 3.5 rebounds), junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (6.8 points, 19 3FGs, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists), senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.5 points, 5.8 rebounds), freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.9 points, 71% FGs, 3.1 rebounds) and senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (5.8 points, 26 3FGs). H-SC shoots 47% (604-1277) from the field, including 33% (159-476) on three-point field goals, and 71% (319-449) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 80.3 points, and yielding 68.4 points, for a +11.9 scoring margin.

Scouting Bridgewater
BC is coached by first-year head coach Mike Maczko and has been led by senior forward Aaron Oates (14.0 points, 26 3FGs, 7.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks) and sophomore guard Jordan Cooper (13.9 points, 17 3FGs, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists). The Eagles shoot 41% (492-1190) from the field, including 31% (146-469) on three-pointers, and 66% (220-332) at the line. BC is scoring 64.3 points, and yielding 68.5 points, for a -4.2 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC and BC are playing for the 87th time as ODAC opponents since the 1976-77 season, and the Tigers lead the series at 54-32. H-SC has won three-straight, and five of the last six games played between the two schools, including a 75-68 home win on January 10 in Fleet Gym—starting the Tigers' current eight-game winning streak. Additionally, H-SC has won three-straight in Bridgewater, including 78-57 on Jan. 10, 2024 in its last visit.

ODAC Offensive Player of the Week
Shane Fernald
was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for games played Jan. 20-26 ... averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games (2-0) ... posting a career-high and game-high 22 points (10-14 FGs, 2-3 FTs) off the bench during a 105-92 road win at Randolph (1/22), adding a game-high nine rebounds, along with three assists and one steal ... following with a double-double of 19 points (8-15 FGs, 3-5 FTs) and a career-high and game-high 12 rebounds during a 78-67 home win past Ferrum (1/25), his second double-double of the season and career, adding one assist, one steal and one block.

Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.

is 10th in program history with 1,453 career points in 114 career games, and is seventh in career assists with 353. He adds 145 career steals and 227 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

moved up three spots and is ranked No. 5 nationally in the week nine D3hoops.com Top 25 (2/3), its highest ranking this season. The Tigers, ranked eighth for the last two weeks, earned 454 points in this week's poll, and remains among the Top 10 for the seventh consecutive ranking. Wesleyan (CT) (21-0) is first again this week with 621 points.

ranks 11th nationally in winning percentage (85.7), 30th in rebound margin (7.7), 31st in both scoring margin (11.9) and in assist/turnover ratio (1.39), and 40th in field goal percentage (47.3).


2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC
has made at least one three-point field goal in 514 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,535 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Feb. 5, Turner was 309-183 at UCI (20-3 this season) ... Odom was 201-116 overall, including 42-19 at VCU (18-5  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 125-94 at Longwood (16-8 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
