HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College junior forward and team captain
Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) has been named the
Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for games played January 20-26. Shane averaged a double-double of 20.5 points (62% FGs) and 10.5 rebounds, adding four assists, two steals and one block to lead the nationally-ranked No. 8 Tigers to a pair of ODAC wins, earning the conference's offensive honors for the first time in his career.
Fernald (6-7, 255) scored a career-high and game-high 22 points (10-14 FGs, 2-3 FTs) off the bench during a 105-92 road win at Randolph College on Jan. 22 in Lynchburg, adding a game-high nine rebounds, along with three assists and one steal. He followed with a double-double of 19 points (8-15 FGs, 3-5 FTs) and a career-high and game-high 12 rebounds during a 78-67 home win past Ferrum College on Jan. 25 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House, his second double-double of the season and career, adding one assist, one steal and one block.
Shane has started 14 of 17 games played this season and is averaging 12.6 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 22.4 minutes, while shooting 56% (84-149) on field goals, including 31% (5-16) on three-point field goals, and 65% (41-63) at the free throw line. He has 12 double-figure scoring games, including two 20-point games, three double-figure rebounding games and three games with at least six assists, including a career-high and game-high eight assists (in 17 minutes) during a 97-59 home win past William Peace (NC) University on December 13, 2024.

H-SC (15-3, 8-1 ODAC) welcomes conference member Averett University on Wednesday night, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m. in Fleet Gym. It will be "80s Night" promoted by the Roundball Club and "Girls Night Out" with the Longwood Sororities. As a reminder, it's free admission for all regular season home athletic contests at the College.
