Vince Luvara has announced the recent appointment of
Teddy Spooner to his coaching staff. Spooner will coach quarterbacks and serve as the pass game coordinator and director of community service for the program.
"We are excited to welcome Teddy to our staff," said Luvara. "His standout performance during the interview process demonstrated that he is an excellent fit to help elevate our football program. Teddy brings valuable experience from a program with a rich tradition."
Teddy Spooner previously served as an assistant coach at Alma (MI) College since April 2023. He coached wide receivers for the Scots who finished 12-1 in 2023, advancing to the quarterfinals (third round) of the NCAA Division III Playoffs, while finishing 8-2 in 2024. Alma was ranked No. 6 in the final D3football.com Top 25 and No. 7 in the final AFCA Division III Coaches Poll for 2023, while finishing second nationally in passing efficiency (205.69), seventh in scoring offense (46.8) and 13th in total offense (484.8). The Scots were sixth in total offense (497.9), 13th in scoring offense (43.3) and 14th in passing offense (300.7) in 2024.
A native of Huntersville, North Carolina, Teddy graduated from Wingate (NC) University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management. He was a five-year member of the football team for the Bulldogs (2017-21), who advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs in 2017 (9-2), 2018 (9-4) and 2019 (10-2). Spooner served as a student assistant coach in 2021 and a graduate assistant coach in 2022, coaching receivers during both seasons as Wingate finished 8-3 in 2021 and 11-3 in 2022, advancing to the third round of the NCAA Playoffs and finishing No. 12 in the final D2Football.com Top 25 and No. 15 in the final AFCA Division II Coaches Poll.
Hampden-Sydney will open the upcoming 2025 season on the road at non-conference opponent Delaware Valley University on September 6 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The Tigers begin their home campaign against visiting Washington & Jefferson (PA) College on Sept. 13 at 1 p.m. on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.
