FOREST, Va. — The Old Dominion Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2025 ODAC Sportsmanship Teams in each of the conference's seven sponsored fall sports. The squads are composed of a student-athlete selected by the coaching staffs of each team competing under the conference banner with all sports and schools fully represented.
"Sportsmanship and respect are fundamental to the ODAC's mission," said ODAC Commissioner Brad Bankston. "These student-athletes have been recognized for their commitment to fair play and respect for their opponents—qualities that deserve greater recognition. I thank these honorees for setting an outstanding example for all of us.
The ODAC has a rich tradition in promoting fair play and good sportsmanship in each sport across the league. The character of the conference's student-athletes on and off the field is a representation of not only the individuals and teams, but also the institutions for which they play."
Hampden-Sydney is represented on the fall teams by cross country junior Jackson Herndon (Chatham), football senior William Stimmel (Atlanta, GA) and soccer senior Pierce Boerner (Midlothian).
Jackson Herndon led the Tigers in six of seven races during the campaign, including a team and season-best 8K time of 27:16.9 at the Roanoke Invitational/South Region Showdown on October 18 at Green Hill Park in Salem. It was the 12th-best time for the distance in program history. He added a team and season-best 5K time of 21:38.0 at the Eagle Cross Country Challenge on August 29 in Bridgewater. Jackson is the son of Neal and Cortney Herndon.
William Stimmel started the first four games of the season at right guard before an injury nearly ended his campaign; however, he was able to return to action in the final game of his collegiate career. The team captain did help the offensive line earn D3football.com Team of the Week honors two times early-on, including on September 9 and Sept. 23. H-SC rushed for 237 yards on 46 attempts (5.2), adding 204 yards passing on 25 attempts for 441 yards of total offense on 71 plays (6.2), while allowing no sacks during a 38-9 non-conference road win at (RV)Delaware Valley on Sept. 6 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The Garnet & Grey rushed for for a school-record 443 yards on 73 attempts (6.1), adding 123 yards passing on 15 attempts for 566 yards of total offense on 88 plays (6.4), while allowing no sacks during a 42-7 ODAC home win past Shenandoah on Sept. 6 on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. William is the son of Carl and Claudia Stimmel.
Pierce Boerner played in 19 of 20 games this season and was second on the team in scoring with four goals and four assists totaling 12 points. He scored what proved to be the game-winning goal during a 4-1 home win past Randolph in the ODAC Tournament Semifinals on November 1 at Hellmuth-Gibson Field. Boerner scored a season-high four points with one goal and two assists during a season-opening 5-1 home win past Southern Virginia in the Simms/Flowers Classic on August 29. Pierce is the son of Kent and Anne Boerner, and was recently named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Men's Soccer Academic All-District Team.
