HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 11 in the final NCAA Power Index (NPI) and No. 10 in the final regular season D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes Bryn Athyn (PA) College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday night, March 7, at 6:40 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 21-5 overall, finishing 14-2 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), and have won 11 of their last 13 games to receive an at-large invitation to the postseason. The Lions are 20-8 overall, finishing 15-1 in the United East Conference (UEC), and have won 15 consecutive games—among them the UEC Tournament Championship to earn automatic qualification (AQ) to the tournament. The contest can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch at NCAA.com.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens (65 and older) and $10 for students (six years old through college), and will be available at the entrance to Fleet Gym on Friday beginning at 3 p.m.

Hampden-Sydney Is A Host Site
H-SC was chosen as one of sixteen sites hosting competition on Friday and Saturday, March 7-8. The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford (23-3) will play The College of New Jersey (20-7) on Friday, March 7, at 4:10 p.m. The Tigers (21-5) will host Bryn Athyn (PA) College (20-8) on Friday, March 7, at 6:40 p.m. The two winners of the Friday games will play in the second round on Saturday, March 8, at 6:40 p.m.—all three games in Fleet Gym.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 104-43 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.707) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard, third-year team captain, ODAC Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 18.2 points (42 3FGs, 86% FTs), 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Junior forward, team captain and First Team All-ODAC honoree Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 13.6 points (57% FGs), 7.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 9.3 points (47 3FGs-41%) and 3.0 rebounds. Other top contributors include freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (7.6 points, 3.6 rebounds), senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (7.0 points, 41 3FGs-41%) and senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.5 points, 6.0 rebounds). H-SC shoots 47% (752-1593) from the field, including 33% (197-596) on three-point field goals, and 71% (379-537) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 80.0 points, and yielding 69.2 points, for a +10.8 scoring margin.

BAC is coached by fourth-year head coach and UEC Coach of the Year Sean Westerlund ... and has been led by junior guard and First Team All-UEC honoree Will Little (14.0 points, 30 3FGs, 4.8 rebounds), senior guard and First Team All-UEC honoree Jakir Hampton (13.8 points, 63 3FGs) and senior forward Jalen Parker (11.0 points, 5.3 rebounds). The Lions shoot 45% (725-1617) from the field, including 32% (167-519) on three-pointers, and 69% (406-589) at the line. BAC scores 72.3 points, and yields 70.6 points, for s +1.7 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC and BAC are playing for the first-time ever. Additionally, the Tigers have never played either Pitt-Bradford or TCNJ.

UPB earned an AQ as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Tournament Champion and is coached by fifth-year head coach and AMCC Coach of the Year Jesse DeLoof ... and has been led by senior forward and AMCC Player of the Year Jamarion Butler (21.0 points, 7.3 rebounds), junior guard Jeremy Rodriguez (17.5 points, 28 3FGs) and freshman forward and Third Team All-AMCC honoree Braylen Salters (15.7 points, 46 3FGs). The Panthers shoot 47% (966-2047) from the field, including 35% (245-710) on three-pointers, and 73% (537-739) at the line. UPB scores 104.4 points (3rd in Division III), and yields 91.7 points, for a +12.7 scoring margin.

TCNJ earned an at-large invitation and is coached by 10th-year head coach Matt Goldsmith ... and has been led by junior guard and First Team All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) honoree Nick Koch (21.0 points, 30 3FGs, 4.4 assists), senior forward Matthew Okorie (13.3 points, 6.5 rebounds) and junior forward and honorable mention All-NJAC honoree Matthew Solomon (11.3 points, 9.3 rebounds). The Lions shoot 45% (793-1774) from the field, including 33% (248-760) on three-pointers, and 72% (367-507) at the line. TCNJ scores 81.5 points, and yields 73.2 points, for a +8.3 scoring margin.

All-ODAC Honors
Adam Brazil was named the 2024-25 ODAC Men's Basketball Kurt Axe Player of the Year, and the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year ... now a three-time All-ODAC honoree after also earning First Team last season (2023-24) and Second Team in 2022-23. Shane Fernald was also named First Team All-ODAC, his first time earning All-ODAC honors.

Trevor Hudgins Award Top 15 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Trevor Hudgins Award Top 15 Watch List on March 1. The Trevor Hudgins Award is presented annually to the senior who has had the finest overall four-year career within Small College Basketball. Adam had been named to the Top 25 Watch List on Feb. 1.

Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List on Feb. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam had been named to the Top 100 Watch List on January 15. and is the second-straight finalist from the program, along with Davidson Hubbard '24.

Next Level
Adam Brazil
has taken his game to another level this season ... averaging 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while shooting 45% (165-365) from the field, including 28% (42-153) on three-pointers, and 86% (101-118) at the line. He has 22 double-figure scoring games, including three 30-point games among 11 20-point games, and scored a season and career-high 34 points vs. Randolph-Macon (11/13).

Picking Up Where He Left Off
Shane Fernald
played his season as he finished last season ... at a high level ... averaging 13.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 57% (131-231) from the field. He has 19 double-figure scoring games, including five 20-point games—scoring a season and career-high 23 points at Bridgewater (2/8) and grabbing a season and career-high 12 rebounds vs. Ferrum (1/25).

Impact Transfer
Colin Radcliffe
has been an impact transfer. Colin transferred from Division II Mount Olive (NC) and is averaging 9.3 points and 3.0 rebounds, while shooting 43% (81-190) from the field, including 41% (47-114) on three-pointers, and 80% (32-40) at the line. He scored a season and career-high 27 points at Swarthmore (PA) (11/9) during his debut with the Tigers.

Adam Brazil
is ninth in program history with 1,531 career points in 119 career games, and is seventh in career assists with 374. He adds 147 career steals (11th all-time) and 232 career three-pointers (Top 10 all-time). Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

Scheduling Toughness

played eight opponents this season that have qualified for the NCAA Tournament, posting a record of 7-4 against those schools. The Tigers own two wins vs. Randolph-Macon, and one win each vs. Guilford, Roanoke, Christopher Newport, Mary Washington and Pfeiffer. The losses were to Guilford, Roanoke, John Carroll and Gettysburg.

100 Wins At H-SC
Caleb Kimbrough
earned his 100th win at H-SC with a 75-44 road win at Eastern Mennonite on Feb. 1. Caleb is currently 104-43 overall at the College, including an ODAC record of 59-25. His 104 wins rank sixth all-time at H-SC, while his .707 winning percentage ranks second all-time on the Hill. He is now 74-15 over the past three seasons, including 31-3 in 2023-24 and 22-7 in 2022-23.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC
has made at least one three-point field goal in 519 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest ... 130-99.

***2024-25 DIII Men's Hoops MVP Voting***
Vote once daily for Adam Brazil in the online D3 Data Division III MVP Voting. Adam is among 20 candidates for this first-time honor with voting available through March 17. The field was narrowed to 20 players using a number of empirical measures including multiple advanced player statistics and team performance. The top five players with the most points will be announced when voting closes and ultimately the Men's Hoops MVP will be crowned.

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

Program History
H-SC
is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,538 wins. H-SC has now posted 64 winning seasons, 18 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and is making its 17th NCAA Tournament appearances.

NCAA Tournament History
H-SC
is making its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance since 1989, winning at least one game in 13 of the 16 previous years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 25-17. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. H-SC was National Runner-Up in 2024, falling to Trine (IN) 69-61, as well as in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime. The Tigers fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals, before falling to Wooster (OH) 78-74 in the third-place game. H-SC also advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994 and 1998. The Tigers have hosted 22 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 17-5.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through March 5, Turner was 314-185 at UCI (25-5 this season) ... Odom was 208-116 overall, including 48-19 at VCU (25-5  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 127-99 at Longwood (18-13 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
