HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 5 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes (RV)Virginia Wesleyan University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday night, February 5, at 7 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 17-3 overall, 10-1 in the ODAC, following a 75-44 conference road win at Eastern Mennonite University on Feb. 1 in Harrisonburg—their seventh-straight win and ninth win in the last 10 games. The Marlins are 16-4 overall, 9-2 in the ODAC, after a 96-72 home win past Randolph College on Feb. 1 in Virginia Beach—their fifth win in the last six games. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com. It will be a "Banner Blackout" as the program will unveil the 2024 ODAC Tournament Championship banner and everyone is encouraged to wear black attire, and as a reminder, it's free admission for all regular season home athletic contests at the College.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 100-41 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.709) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 19.5 points (37 3FGs, 85% FTs), 3.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 12.6 points (57% FGs), 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 10.0 points (38 3FGs-45%) and 3.0 rebounds. Other top contributors include senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.8 points, 5.9 rebounds), junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (6.8 points, 19 3FGs, 3.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists), freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (6.6 points, 3.6 rebounds), senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.2 points, 26 3FGs) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.9 points, 72% FGs). H-SC shoots 48% (580-1222) from the field, including 34% (154-459) on three-point field goals, and 71% (306-432) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 81.0 points, and yielding 69.5 points, for a +11.5 scoring margin.

VWU is coached by 25th-year head coach Dave Macedo and has been led by senior guard Omari Deveaux (13.2 points, 42 3FGs), junior guard Khai Seargeant (12.6 points, 28 3FGs), junior forward Amari Moorer (12.3 points, 8.0 rebounds) and senior center Waylo Wilson (10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds). The Marlins shoot 46% (507-1110) from the field, including 36% (159-443) on three-pointers, and 68% (275-403) at the line. VWU is scoring 72.4 points, and yielding 58.6 points, for a +13.8 scoring margin.

and VWU are playing for the 93rd time since first meeting on January 8, 1973 at H-SC (W 96-56). The Tigers lead the overall series at 52-40 (32-31 ODAC) with five-straight wins, including three last season: 77-54 on Jan. 31, 2024 in Fleet Gym ... 71-47 on Feb. 14, 2024 in Virginia Beach ... and 63-52 on Feb. 24, 2024 in the ODAC Tournament Semifinals at the Salem Civic Center in Salem. Prior to the last five games, the Marlins had won six-straight and 15 of 16 games in the series.

was named to the 2024-25 Trevor Hudgins Award Top 25 Watch List on Feb. 1. The Trevor Hudgins Award is presented annually to the senior who has had the finest overall four-year career within Small College Basketball.


Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.

Adam Brazil
is now 10th in program history with 1,447 career points in 113 career games, and is seventh in career assists with 347. He adds 142 career steals and 227 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

is ranked No. 5 nationally in the week nine D3hoops.com Top 25 (2/3). The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason, 13th in week one, 12th in week two, 9th in week three, 7th in week four, eighth in week five, 10th in week six, and eighth again in weeks seven and eight, earned 454 points in this week's rankings. Wesleyan (CT) University (21-0) is first again this week with 621 points.

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC
has made at least one three-point field goal in 513 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

Program History
H-SC
is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,534 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Feb. 3, Turner was 309-183 at UCI (20-3 this season) ... Odom was 200-116 overall, including 41-19 at VCU (17-5  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 125-94 at Longwood (16-8 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
