HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 4 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, is scheduled to welcome Guilford (NC) College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Wednesday night, February 12, at 7 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 19-3 overall, 12-1 in the ODAC, following an 83-62 conference road win at Bridgewater College on Feb. 8 in Bridgewater—their ninth-straight win and 11th win in the last 12 games. The Quakers are 17-5 overall, 10-3 in the ODAC, after a 67-52 home win past Washington and Lee University on Feb. 8 in Greensboro, North Carolina—their sixth win in the last seven games. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com. It will be a "Whiteout Wednesday" as everyone is encouraged to wear white attire, and as a reminder, it's free admission for all regular season home athletic contests at the College.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 102-41 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.713) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 18.3 points (37 3FGs, 85% FTs), 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 13.2 points (57% FGs), 7.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 10.0 points (42 3FGs-44%). Other top contributors include freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (7.4 points, 3.5 rebounds), senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.5 points, 5.9 rebounds), junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (6.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists), senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.0 points, 28 3FGs) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.6 points, 70% FGs, 3.0 rebounds). H-SC shoots 48% (639-1342) from the field, including 33% (164-494) on three-point field goals, and 71% (327-458) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 80.4 points, and yielding 68.1 points, for a +12.3 scoring margin.

Scouting Guilford
GC is coached by 22nd-year head coach Tom Palombo and has been led by senior transfer guard Nick Farrar (17.7 points, 7.6 rebounds) and junior guard Gabe Proctor (12.6 points, 55 3FGs-44%, 5.0 rebounds). The Quakers shoot 45% (574-1275) from the field, including 38% (203-530) on three-pointers, and 66% (241-364) at the line. GC is scoring 72.4 points, and yielding 63.9 points, for a +8.5 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC
and GC are playing for the 66th time since the Quakers joined the ODAC (1991-92), and the Tigers lead the series at 39-26. GC, however, has won three of the last four games played between the two schools, including a 77-68 home win last month on January 8 in Greensboro. H-SC has won three-straight home games against the Quakers under Coach Kimbrough, including 64-57 in the most recent home game two seasons ago on Jan. 25, 2023. The Tigers also defeated GC 62-57 in the NCAA Division III National Semifinals last March 14, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

has limited its last five opponents to only 56.8 points per game, including a season-low 44 points to Eastern Mennonite on Feb. 1 in Harrisonburg. The opposition is shooting just 35% (101-291) from the field in those last five games, including only 25% (29-114) on three-point field goals.

Career Watch
Adam Brazil
is 10th in program history with 1,461 career points in 115 career games, and is seventh in career assists with 358. He adds 146 career steals and 227 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

moved up another spot and is ranked No. 4 nationally in the week 10 D3hoops.com Top 25 (2/10), its highest ranking this season. The Tigers, ranked fifth last week, earned 512 points in this week's poll, and remains among the Top 10 for the eighth consecutive ranking. Wesleyan (CT) (22-0) remains first again this week with 624 points.

ranks 11th nationally in winning percentage (86.4), 26th in scoring margin (12.3), 33rd in rebound margin (7.3), and 34th in both assist/turnover ratio (1.39) and in field goal percentage (47.6). Shane Fernald ranks 39th in field goal percentage (57.1).

Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Trevor Hudgins Award Top 25 Watch List on Feb. 1. The Trevor Hudgins Award is presented annually to the senior who has had the finest overall four-year career within Small College Basketball.


Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.


2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC
has made at least one three-point field goal in 515 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

Program History
H-SC
is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,536 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Feb. 8, Turner was 309-184 at UCI (20-4 this season) ... Odom was 202-116 overall, including 43-19 at VCU (19-5  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 125-95 at Longwood (16-9 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
