Charlie Cobb Classic | Feature on Mr. Cobb (hsc.edu, 2020)
Charlie Cobb '69
was a fiercely loyal, generous and kind man who loved his family, his friends and Hampden-Sydney College. He is deeply missed in so many ways, but rest assured that he is watching and enjoying (and coaching) every minute of every game from above. His legacy lives on thanks to Charlie's family and friends who continue to support the program that meant so much to him, with further thanks to the coaching staff that has organized the Charlie Cobb Classic for years to come. Unfortunately, Mr. Cobb passed away on August 15, 2022.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the seventh-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 116-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 108-45 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.706) ranks second all-time. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year and the 2024-25 D3hoops.com Region 6 Coach of the Year.

2025-26 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough will be aided this season by second-year associate head coach Bryson Gibson, also in his seventh year with the program, fourth-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Zach Hinton.

Scouting the No. 17 Tigers
H-SC, ranked No. 17 in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25, enters the weekend with a record of 2-1 following a 79-56 road win at Salisbury (MD) on Nov. 12. The Tigers have been led by sophomore guards Santana Lynch (Dallas, TX) and Peter Moye (Charlotte, NC), each averaging 13.7 points with Lynch adding 7.0 rebounds and Moye making five three-point field goals. Classmates and fellow guards Tugg Bizzelle (Baltimore, MD) and Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) add 11.3 points and 10.3 points, respectively, with Bizzelle also making five three-pointers and Stickney adding 10 assists in three games. Senior forward Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) contributes 9.7 points and 5.7 rebounds. H-SC is shooting 49% (87-176) from the field, including 40% (17-43) on three-pointers, and 57% (42-74) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 77.7 points, and yielding 64.7 points, for a +13.0 scoring margin.

Scouting Mary Baldwin
Mary Baldwin is 1-2 and coached by second-year head coach Daniel Eacho, who served as an assistant coach at the College for five seasons (2016-17, 2018-22). Randolph-Macon was picked first with 121 points and 11 first-place votes, while Virginia Wesleyan was chosen second with 104 points, followed by Roanoke in third with 103 points and the other first-place vote, H-SC (fourth, 96) and Lynchburg with 81 points to round-out the Top Five. The remainder of the poll includes Shenandoah (64), Guilford (58) and Washington and Lee (58), Averett (34), Bridgewater (33), Randolph (26) and Eastern Mennonite (14).

Scheduling Toughness

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in 525 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest ... 130-99 without making a three-pointer.
