HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College is ranked No. 17 nationally in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25. The Tigers earned 220 points in the poll after finishing 2024-25 with a final overall record of 23-6 for their third-straight season with 20-plus wins, also the 18th 20-win season in program history–the first time since 1996-99 that H-SC has accomplished three consecutive 20-win campaigns. The Garnet & Grey also made their third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, and 17th overall since 1989, advancing to the Sweet 16 for the eighth time.

The preseason Top 10 includes defending Division III National Champion Trinity (CT) College (623) at No. 1, followed by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member Randolph-Macon College (No. 2, 537), Emory (GA) University (No. 3, 529), Tufts (MA) University (No. 4, 520), Washington (MO) University (No. 5, 499), University of Redlands (CA) (No. 6, 492), University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (No. 7, 397), Carthage (WI) College (No. 8, 396), Christopher Newport University (No. 9, 394) and ODAC member Roanoke College (No. 10, 341). The ODAC has four members among the Top 25, including Virginia Wesleyan University (No. 14, 262) and the Tigers (No. 17, 220), while the University of Mary Washington (No. 15, 239) is ranked, as well.

H-SC is scheduled to play No. 2 Randolph-Macon, No. 3 Emory, No. 6 Redlands—who defeated the Tigers 83-72 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament last March 14—No. 7 UW-La Crosse, No. 10 Roanoke, No. 14 Virginia Wesleyan, No. 21 Maryville (TN) and possibly Keene State (NH) College, who is receiving votes in the preseason poll.

H-SC begins the campaign on the road with its participation in the non-conference TowneBank Tipoff Tournament hosted by No. 14 VWU on November 7-8 in Virginia Beach. The Tigers will play No. 7 UW-La Crosse to open the season on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m., then will play either (RV)Keene State or the host Marlins on Saturday, Nov. 8, at either 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. UW-La Crosse advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last March and Keene State advanced to the second round, while VWU won the 2025 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.
