HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 8 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, plays on the road at Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday afternoon, February 1, at 2 p.m. in Yoder Arena. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 16-3 overall, 9-1 in the ODAC, following an 88-64 conference home win past Averett University on January 29 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium—their sixth-straight win. The Royals are 4-14 overall, 1-9 in the ODAC, after a 76-62 home loss to (RV)Roanoke College on Jan. 29 in Harrisonburg. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 99-41 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.707) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 19.9 points (37 3FGs, 86% FTs), 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 12.7 points (58% FGs), 7.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 10.2 points (36 3FGs-46%) and 2.7 rebounds. Other top contributors include junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (7.0 points, 18 3FGs, 3.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists), senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.6 points, 5.6 rebounds), freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (6.6 points, 3.5 rebounds), senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.2 points, 24 3FGs) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.8 points, 71% FGs, 2.9 rebounds). H-SC shoots 48% (552-1160) from the field, including 33% (146-437) on three-point field goals, and 71% (295-415) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 81.3 points, and yielding 70.8 points, for a +10.5 scoring margin.

Scouting Eastern Mennonite
EMU is coached by seventh-year head coach Melvin Felix and has been led by sophomore guard Aaron Brooks (13.9 points, 20 3FGs, 3.8 assists), senior guard/forward Aviwe Mahlong (12.3 points, 23 3FGs, 4.1 rebounds) and graduate guard Kaleb Torrence (11.5 points, 30 3FGs). The Royals shoot 41% (416-1005) from the field, including 32% (148-464) on three-pointers, and 72% (204-283) at the line. EMU is scoring 65.8 points, and yielding 72.8 points, for a -7.1 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC and EMU are playing for the 87th time as ODAC opponents since the 1976-77 season. The Tigers lead the conference series at 62-24, including four-straight wins, the most recent being a 102-61 home win last Jan. 13, 2024. H-SC also won the last time the two teams played in Harrisonburg, 87-53, on December 3, 2022.

ODAC Offensive Player of the Week
Shane Fernald was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for games played Jan. 20-26 ... averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games (2-0) ... posting a career-high and game-high 22 points (10-14 FGs, 2-3 FTs) off the bench during a 105-92 road win at Randolph (1/22), adding a game-high nine rebounds, along with three assists and one steal ... following with a double-double of 19 points (8-15 FGs, 3-5 FTs) and a career-high and game-high 12 rebounds during a 78-67 home win past Ferrum (1/25), his second double-double of the season and career, adding one assist, one steal and one block.

Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.

Career Watch
Adam Brazil is 12th in program history with 1,437 career points in 112 career games, and is now seventh in career assists with 347. He adds 142 career steals and 227 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

H-SC remains ranked No. 8 nationally in the week eight D3hoops.com Top 25 (1/27). The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason, 13th in week one, 12th in week two, 9th in week three, 7th in week four, eighth in week five, 10th in week six, and now eighth again in weeks seven and eight, earned 434 points in this week's rankings. Wesleyan (CT) University (19-0) is first this week with 608 points.

NCAA Division III Statistics (Top 50)
H-SC ranks 15th nationally in winning percentage (84.2), 30th in assist/turnover ratio (1.41), 35th in field goal percentage (47.6), 39th in scoring margin (10.5), 40th in rebound margin (6.9) and 48th in scoring offense (81.3). Shane Fernald ranks 34th in field goal percentage (58.0), and Adam Brazil ranks 41st in points (379).

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in 512 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

Program History
H-SC is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,533 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Jan. 30, Turner was 308-183 at UCI (19-3 this season) ... Odom was 199-116 overall, including 40-19 at VCU (16-5 this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 125-93 at Longwood (16-7 this season). Aldrich was 125-92 at Longwood (16-6 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.

H-SC returns home to welcome ODAC member (25)Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday night, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. in Fleet Gym. It will be a "Banner Blackout" as the program will unveil the 2024 ODAC Tournament Championship banner and everyone is encouraged to wear black attire.
