HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 8 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes Ferrum College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Saturday afternoon, January 25, at 2 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 14-3 overall, 7-1 in the ODAC, following a 105-92 conference road win at Randolph College on Jan. 22 in Lynchburg. The Panthers are 12-5 overall, 4-4 in the ODAC, after a 98-66 home loss to (RV)Roanoke College on Jan. 22 in Ferrum. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 97-41 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.703) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 19.8 points (33 3FGs, 85% FTs), 3.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 12.2 points (57% FGs), 7.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 10.2 points (31 3FGs-46%) and 2.6 rebounds. Other top contributors include junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (7.1 points, 16 3FGs, 3.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists), freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (7.0 points, 3.6 rebounds), senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.7 points, 5.8 rebounds), senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.4 points, 21 3FGs) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.9 points, 74% FGs, 2.9 rebounds). H-SC shoots 47% (489-1047) from the field, including 33% (129-396) on three-point field goals, and 72% (272-380) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 81.1 points, and yielding 71.4 points, for a +9.7 scoring margin.

Scouting Ferrum
FC is coached by third-year head coach Patrick Corrigan '13, a former four-year team member of the Tigers and team captain when H-SC finished 23-5 and played in NCAA Tournament (2012-13). Patrick's father, David Corrigan '79, was a three-year letterman for the Tigers (1976-79). The Panthers have been led by junior forward Alfredo Abel-Rivera (14.9 points, 8.4 rebounds) and senior guard Charles Tart III (11.7 points, 4.6 rebounds). FC shoots 49% (528-1072) from the field, including 36% (132-363) on three-pointers, and 62% (183-297) at the line. The Panthers are scoring 80.6 points, and yielding 65.6 points, for a +15.1 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC leads the overall series between the two schools at 12-3, including five-straight wins and six wins in the last seven games played between the two schools. The Tigers are 5-1 against FC at home in Fleet Gym, including a 94-74 win in the most recent meeting on Jan. 11, 2023. H-SC defeated the Panthers twice last season, including 81-61 in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals on February 22, 2024 at the Salem Civic Center ... and 60-52 on Jan. 3, 2024 at Ferrum.

Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.

January Road Warriors
H-SC played five games this month away from home, and within a span of 18 days (Jan. 4-22). The Tigers were 4-1 in those games, and are currently 38-20 (.655) on the road under Coach Kimbrough, including 7-1 this season.

Career Watch
Adam Brazil is now 12th in program history with 1,394 career points in 110 career games, and is eighth in career assists with 341. He adds 136 career steals and 221 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

H-SC is ranked No. 8 nationally in the week seven D3hoops.com Top 25 (1/20). The Tigers, ranked 23rd in the preseason, 13th in week one, 12th in week two, 9th in week three, 7th in week four, eighth in week five and 10th in week six, earned 410 points in this week's rankings. The University of Wisconsin-Platteville (15-1) is first again this week with 620 points, including 17 first-place votes.

NCAA Division III Statistics (Top 50)
H-SC ranks 18th nationally in winning percentage (82.4), 27th in assist/turnover ratio (1.44), 40th in fewest turnovers per game (10.8), 43rd in free throws made per game (16.0), 47th in free throw attempts per game (22.4) and 50th in scoring margin (9.7).

2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in 510 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

Program History
H-SC is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,531 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Jan. 23, Turner was 306-183 at UCI (17-3 this season) ... Odom was 198-115 overall, including 39-18 at VCU (15-4 this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 124-92 at Longwood (15-6 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.
