The visiting Tigers are 0-1 overall, 0-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), while the host Tornados are playing their first game of the season after finishing 5-5 overall, 5-2 in the USA South Athletic Conference (USA South) in 2023. H-SC dropped a
41-21 non-conference decision at home to Delaware Valley (PA) University in its season-opening game on Sept. 7 on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. The Tigers scored a touchdown on their first possession of the game for an early 7-0 advantage, but the Aggies responded with five consecutive touchdowns to lead 34-7 toward their road victory. BC was picked fourth in the USA South preseason coaches' poll, receiving one first-place vote.
Head Coach Vince Luvara
H-SC is led by the first-year head coach who took over the program on December 7, 2023. The former defensive coordinator at Washington & Jefferson (PA) College since 2016, Luvara becomes the 29th head coach in the 130-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native is no stranger to NCAA Division III, having played four years at Allegheny (PA) College and coached one year at Allegheny and two years at Misericordia (PA) University—each school members of Division III.
The Series
H-SC defeated BC
31-27 last Sept. 9, 2023 at Everett Stadium in the only previous meeting between the two programs. The contest was delayed for one-hour and 46-minutes at 13:37 of the first quarter due to lightning in the area, before resuming uninterrupted thereafter with only a five-minute break taken at halftime. Scouting The Tigers
Junior quarterback and team captain
Carter Sido (Dallas, TX) passed for 144 yards (15-28-1) and one touchdown with one interception thrown in last week's season-opening game vs. Delaware Valley (PA). He is tied for fourth in the ODAC in passing touchdowns, fifth in passing yards and seventh in passing efficiency (101.4).
Sophomore running back
Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) rushed for a career-high 107 yards on a career-high 19 attempts and one touchdown, adding one reception for two yards. He is third in the ODAC in rushing yards, tied for third in rushing touchdowns and sixth in all-purpose yards per game (109.0). Freshman running back
Fain Barton (Atlanta, GA), who garnered honorable mention All-State honors at Class 4A Westminster in Atlanta, Georgia a year ago, rushed for 53 yards on 14 attempts and one touchdown. He is also tied for third in rushing touchdowns, and is 11th in the ODAC in rushing yards (53).
Sophomore wide receiver
Ethan Dowdy (Powhatan) had a career-high seven receptions for a career-high 63 yards and one touchdown. He is second in the ODAC in receptions, tied for second in receiving touchdowns and eighth in receiving yards. Senior tight end
Sutton Lasso (Raleigh, NC) had a career-high six receptions for a career-high 77 yards. He is tied for third in the ODAC in receptions and sixth in receiving yards.
Junior linebacker and team captain
Robert Clarke (Atlanta, GA) finished with a team-high and career-high seven tackles, including one for loss, while making his first collegiate start for the Tigers. He is tied for ninth in the ODAC in total tackles. Junior nose tackle
Andrew Arthur-Humphrey (Woodbridge) added a career-high six tackles, including one for loss, as well, in his first collegiate game in the Garnet & Grey. Freshman defensive end
Jordan Williams (Washington, DC) also had six tackles, including a half-sack, in his first collegiate game, as well. Arthur-Humphrey and Williams are each tied for 18th in the ODAC in total tackles. Williams, along with junior defensive end
Wyatt Croson (Warrenton) are each tied for 11th in the ODAC in sacks (0.5).
Senior placekicker
Elijah Swett (Matthews, NC) was 3-3 (100%) on PAT kicks and had no field goal attempts. He averaged 56.7 yards on three kickoffs (eight-yard line) with no touchbacks. Swett is tied for fourth in the ODAC in kick scoring points. Sophomore punter
Camden Richardson (Midlothian) averaged 34.9 yards on seven punts, including a long of 50 yards, with one downed inside the 20.
Fain Barton averaged 23.0 yards on one kickoff return, and is sixth in the ODAC. Junior wide receiver
Joseph Gonzalez averaged 21.8 yards on four kick returns, including a long of 26 yards, and is seventh in the ODAC.
Scouting The Tornados
Junior quarterback Ethan Beamish passed for 2,697 yards (209-333-9) and 23 touchdowns with nine interceptions thrown in 10 games last year. Graduate running back Chancellor Lee-Parker rushed for 907 yards on 151 attempts and nine touchdowns in 10 games, adding 14 receptions for 136 yards and two receiving touchdowns. Graduate wide receiver Zackary Orr had 47 receptions for 690 yards and five touchdowns in nine games. Junior wide receiver Adam Douglas had 40 receptions for 494 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games. Senior Cooper Hogan had 34 receptions for 429 yards and one touchdown in 10 games. Senior safety Dylan James had 47 total tackles, including 0.5 for loss, with one interception and two blocked kicks in 10 games. Senior cornerback James Woods had 44 total tackles and one blocked kick. Junior defensive end Robert Dorsey had 38 total tackles, including 11.5 for loss with 5.0 sacks and five forced fumbles in nine games.

The host Tigers led 10-0 after one quarter, 17-10 at halftime, and 24-17 after three quarters en route to their hard-fought
home win against the visiting Tornados.
Melik Frost '24 rushed for 103 yards on 23 attempts and one touchdown,
Carter Sido passed for 151 yards (15-25-0) and two touchdowns with no interceptions thrown, and
Mason Cunningham had five receptions for a game-high 103 yards and one touchdown.
James-Ryan Salvi '24 finished with a game-high 11 tackles, including 0.5 for loss. Unfortunately, Sido was injured late in the third quarter and it proved to be a season-ending injury.
Ethan Beamish passed for a game-high 265 yards (30-39-1) and one touchdown with one interception for BC, adding 34 yards rushing on seven attempts. Chancellor Lee-Parker had a game-high 106 yards rushing on 12 attempts and one touchdown. Zackary Orr had seven receptions for 93 yards and one touchdown. Grequenceo Coger Jr. finished with seven tackles, including 0.5 for loss.

Austin Fernandez (Warrenton) has four career games with 100-plus yards receiving, including one last season — 109 yards on four receptions and one touchdown at Greensboro (9/16/23). He had three 100-yard receiving games in 2022, including 134 yards on five receptions and one touchdown vs. Widener (9/10/22), 124 yards on seven receptions and one touchdown at Bridgewater (10/1/22) and a career-high 165 yards on eight receptions and one touchdown vs. Averett (10/15/22).
100-Yard Rushing Games
Carter Sido has one career game with 100-plus yards rushing — a career-high 184 yards on 20 attempts and three touchdowns in his first collegiate start vs. Wabash (IN) in "The Gentlemen's Classic" (9/2/22). Carter was named the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week following that game a year ago, adding a career-high 153 yards passing and one touchdown, totaling 337 yards of total offense and four touchdowns ... believed to be a school record for single-game rushing yards by a quarterback.
100-Yard Rushing Games

George Langhammer '24—Howerton went on to become one of 12 finalists for the prestigious award in 2020. Will is a Dean's List student majoring in English with a minor in Spanish and has attained a 3.40 GPA. He is the son of Eric Thomas and Anna LoMascolo.
Hampden-Sydney Football
H-SC has a 129 year history of football, amassing 578 wins since beginning in 1892. The Tigers have experienced great success over the years, including nine ODAC Championships, nine Mason-Dixon Conference Championships, seven NCAA Division III Championship appearances, 87 All-Americans, 16 Academic All-America selections and 222 First Team All-ODAC honorees. H-SC also played in the 1970 and 1971 Knute Rockne Bowls (NCAA College Division East Regional Championship).
From Division III To FBS Memphis
Ryan Silverfield '03 became the 25th head coach in the University of Memphis football history in December 2019 and began his tenure by leading the Tigers into their first major bowl game appearance: the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas. He is currently 33-18 overall in his fifth season at the helm of the Tigers, including 2-0 in 2024. Silverfield led Memphis to a record of 10-3 in 2023, following a 7-6 season in 2022, after going 8-3 season in 2020, and the Tigers were 6-6 in 2021. Ryan coached four seasons as an undergraduate at H-SC, starting as an offensive assistant in 2000, serving as the defensive line coach during 2001 and 2002, before coaching the tight ends and H-backs in 2003.
