The visiting Tigers are 1-2 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC, while the host Quakers are 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the ODAC. H-SC played its ODAC opener at home last weekend, taking a
28-7 triumph past Shenandoah. The Tigers fell behind 7-0 early before responding with four unanswered touchdowns, leading 21-7 at halftime, toward securing their home victory. GC played its ODAC opener last weekend, as well, falling 63-7 at Washington and Lee in Lexington. The Quakers fell behind 49-0 at halftime toward the lopsided setback on the road against the Generals.

H-SC is led by the veteran head coach who is the second-winningest coach in school history with 136 victories (136-78), including 15 winning campaigns, while a five-time ODAC Coach of the Year. His program is 87-46 in ODAC games, while earning five ODAC Championships and making six NCAA Division III Football Championship playoff appearances

The Series
H-SC leads the overall series against GC, 46-24. The Tigers have won 19 of the past 21 games played since Coach Favret took over prior to the 2000 season, including a
43-12 road win in Greensboro this past spring on March 19. The Tigers and Quakers first met on the gridiron in 1920, and H-SC is 23-7 against GC since the Quakers became a full-member of the ODAC in 1991.
Scouting The Tigers
H-SC is expected to be led offensively by senior quarterback and team captain
Tanner Bernard (Lynchburg). Through three games, Bernard has passed for 706 yards (55-81) and four touchdowns with two interceptions.
The running game features the tandem of senior
Kaleb Smith (Rocky Mount) and sophomore
Josh Jones (South Hill). Smith missed the opening game, but has rushed for 161 yards on 25 attempts (6.4) with three touchdowns, adding 88 yards receiving on eight receptions. Jones has rushed for 143 yards on 41 carries (3.5) with one touchdown, adding 134 yards receiving on 14 catches.
Fifth-year wide receiver and second-year team captain
Dillon Costello (Haymarket), along with sophomore wide receiver
Braeden Bowling (Cary, NC) and fifth-year tight end and team captain
Ed Newman (Farmville), lead the receiving group. Costello has 201 yards receiving on 10 receptions with one touchdown. Bowling has 176 yards receiving on 14 catches with one touchdown, while Newman has 57 yards receiving on six catches.

Brendan Weinberg (Apex, NC) and sophomore safety
Will Pickren (Mt Pleasant, SC) lead the Tigers on defense, each with 35 total tackles through three games. Weinberg has 4.5 tackles for loss, while Pickren has two for loss, as well as a pass breakup. Sophomore safety
James-Ryan Salvi (Troutville) adds 22 tackles, along with a forced fumble, while junior safety
Hunter Spence (Colonial Heights) has 19 tackles, including 3.5 for loss and a half-sack, as well. Senior linebacker

George Langhammer (Roanoke) has averaged 41.8 yards on 12 punts, including a collegiate-best of 67 yards, with one fair catch and one downed inside the 20.
Sophomore wide receiver and return specialist
Iceysis Lewis (Radiant) has averaged 27.7 yards on nine kick returns, including a collegiate-best of 72 yards. Classmate and wide receiver
Brice Wilson (Lovingston) has averaged 29.3 yards on three kick returns, including a collegiate-best of 43 yards.
Scouting The Quakers
GC is expected to be led offensively by quarterbacks Teddy Gassert and Bailey Baker, running back Paulie Menegay and wide receiver Tre Alexander. Gassert has passed for 181 yards (15-38) and two touchdowns with no interceptions, while Baker has passed for 114 yards (8-11) and one touchdown with no interceptions. Menegay has rushed for 77 yards on 18 attempts (4.3). Alexander has five receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensive back Alex Manley, linebacker Tyrese Pettaway and defensive back Devin Satterfield each have eight tackles, includng one tackle for loss each by Pettaway and Satterfield, while Manley has two pass breakups. Defensive back Jaden James adds six tackles and two interceptions.
Placekicker Burke Nettles is a perfect 4-4 on PATs, and no field goal attempts. Punter Cade Ratliff has averaged 37.5 yards on 15 punts, including a long of 57 yards, with four fair catches and one inside the 20.

Iceysis Lewis ranks first in the ODAC and 11th in NCAA Division III combined kick return yardage (249).
George Langhammer ranks first in the ODAC and 12th in DIII punting average (41.8).
Brendan Weinberg and
Will Pickren rank first in the ODAC and 16th in DIII total tackles (35). Weinberg ranks fourth in the ODAC in tackles for loss (4.5).
Tanner Bernard ranks first in the ODAC and 24th in DIII completion percentage (.679, 55-81). He is second in the ODAC and 40th in DIII passing yards (706), third in the ODAC and 35th in DIII yards per pass attempt (8.72), third in the ODAC and 44th in DIII passing efficiency (152.5), and fourth in the ODAC in passing touchdowns (4).
Kaleb Smith ranks fourth in the ODAC and 48th in DIII rushing touchdowns (3).
Dillon Costello ranks fifth in the ODAC in receiving yards (201).
Topping the Century Mark
Kaleb Smith surpassed 100 yards rushing for the fourth time in his collegiate career with his 114-yard effort against Shenandoah (9/18). His career-best effort was a 214-yard game on a career-high 30 carries and one touchdown against Guilford (10/20/18) at Everett Stadium, adding a career-high 12 receptions for career-high 118 yards receiving, totaling a career-high 332 all-purpose yards that afternoon against the Quakers.
