Hampden-Sydney Announces 2021 Fall Football Schedule

Tigers will open campaign against Baldwin Wallace on September 4 at Lewis C. Everett Stadium

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College 22nd-year head football coach Marty Favret has announced his program's upcoming 2021 Schedule that includes six Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) games—four to be played at home on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. The Tigers will play 10 overall contests this fall, including two season-opening games against perennially strong non-conference opponents, with five games scheduled at home and five on the road—ironically rotating home and away throughout the campaign.

"An interesting schedule for sure with some new out-of-state challenges early," said Favret, whose Tigers finished 4-1 overall, including 3-1 in the ODAC during the abbreviated 2021 spring season. "We hope to build off of a successful spring and be ready for ODAC competition by mid-September."

H-SC will open at home against Baldwin Wallace University from Berea, Ohio on Saturday, September 4, at 1 p.m. in a non-conference game at Everett Stadium. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs who were originally scheduled to play in 2020 before the fall season was canceled due to COVID-19. The Yellow Jackets finished 7-3 overall in 2019, including 6-3 in the difficult Ohio Athletic Conference, and are 15-5 over the past two complete fall seasons. BW was only able to play two of its five scheduled games this spring.

The Tigers play on the road in week two with another non-conference game at Widener University on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 1 p.m. in Chester, Pennsylvania. The two schools have met once previously, a 24-18 road win for the Garnet & Grey in 1958, and they were originally scheduled to play in 2020, as well. The Pride finished an uncharacteristic 5-5 overall in 2019, including 4-4 in the tough Middle Atlantic Conference, but did not compete this spring.

H-SC returns home in week three during the Athletic Hall of Fame Weekend for its first ODAC game against visiting Shenandoah University on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m. at Everett Stadium. The Hornets finished 1-4 overall, 1-2 in the ODAC this spring, including a 26-0 home loss against the visiting Tigers in Winchester. The College will induct the Hall of Fame Classes of 2020 (Sept. 17) and 2021 (Sept. 18), and both of these special groups will be recognized at halftime.

The Tigers complete the month of September in week four with an ODAC road game at Guilford College on Saturday, Sept. 25, at 1 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Quakers finished 0-4 overall, 0-4 in the ODAC this spring, including a 43-12 home loss against the visiting Tigers in Greensboro.

H-SC is back home in week five during Friends & Family Weekend to welcome ODAC member Washington and Lee University on Saturday, October 2, at 1 p.m. at Everett Stadium. The Generals finished 6-4 overall, 5-3 in the ODAC in 2019, including a 43-24 road win against the Tigers that season. W&L did not compete this spring.

The Tigers will enjoy their bye week (six) on Oct. 9 before playing again in week seven with a non-conference road game at Emory & Henry College on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m. in Emory. The Wasps finished 3-1 overall, 3-0 in the ODAC this spring, but did not play H-SC during the shortened season. E&H has announced that it is pursuing membership in NCAA Division II as the Wasps are not eligible for Division III beginning this fall.

H-SC returns home in week eight for a Homecoming Weekend game against Ferrum College on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 1 p.m. at Everett Stadium. The Panthers finished 2-3 overall, 2-2 in the ODAC this spring, including a 49-21 road loss against the Tigers in the third-place game of the ODAC's first-ever Football Championship Weekend at Everett Stadium.

The Tigers will play on the road in week nine with a non-conference game at The Apprentice School on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. in Newport News. The Builders finished 6-4 overall in 2019, but did not compete this spring.

H-SC is back home in week 10 for its final home game of the season and Senior Day against ODAC member Bridgewater College on Saturday, November 6, at 1 p.m. at Everett Stadium. The Eagles finished 3-2 overall, 1-2 in the ODAC this spring, but did not play H-SC during the shortened season.

The Tigers play on the road in week 11 to complete the regular season at ODAC member and archrival Randolph-Macon College in the 126th meeting of 'The Game' on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. in Ashland. The Yellow Jackets finished 5-0 overall, 4-0 in the ODAC this spring, including a 28-0 road win against the Tigers at Everett Stadium. H-SC continues to lead the Oldest Small School Rivalry in the South, 60-54-11; however, the Yellow Jackets have won seven-straight and nine of the last 10 games played between the two storied programs.

H-SC has amassed 15 winning seasons and an overall record of 135-76 over the past 21 seasons led by Favret—a five-time ODAC Coach of the Year—including 86-46 in the ODAC, while earning five ODAC Championships and making six Division III Football Championship playoff appearances. Coach Favret is the second winningest coach in Tiger football history behind only the legendary Stokeley Fulton, who compiled a record of 143-99-5 from 1960-84.
