WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sophomore quarterback Connor Creech (Winston-Salem, NC) passed for game-highs and career-highs of 127 yards and two touchdowns, adding a touchdown on the ground, as well, while freshman running back Will Foley (Virginia Beach) rushed for game-highs and career-highs of 98 yards and two touchdowns, and junior running back Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) had 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns in the first 6:01 of the contest, to lead (RV)Hampden-Sydney College to a 61-8 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) football road win at Gallaudet University on Saturday afternoon in our nation's capital city. The visiting Tigers (7-1, 5-1) led 34-0 after one quarter and 61-0 at halftime en route to the triumph past the host Bison (1-7, 1-6), associate members of the ODAC in football-only this season.

"Great team win," said second-year head coach Vince Luvara, now 12-6 overall at the College. "Proud of how fast we started and executed in all three phases."

H-SC, receiving votes this week in both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) D3 Coaches Poll (36) and the D3football.com Top 25 (4), took the opening possession of the game and quickly went 65 yards on just three plays as senior quarterback and team captain Carter Sido (Dallas, TX) found senior wide receiver and team captain Mason Cunningham (Arlington) for a 27-yard touchdown pass at 14:06. Freshman placekicker Davis Dudley (Charlotte, NC) added the first of his seven PAT kicks for an early 7-0 advantage. The quick drive also included a 24-yard run by Hicks to start and a 14-yard reception by senior wide receiver Jordan Jackson (Fredericksburg).

Following a quick three-and-out, the Tigers began their second possession at the GU 45 and covered the distance on six plays with Hicks scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run at 11:21 and it was 14-0. Hicks had runs of 17 and 12 yards on the drive and Cunningham added a 10-yard reception.

The Bison turned it over on downs on their second possession and the Garnet & Grey took over at the home 29. It took four plays to find the end zone at Hicks scored on a 16-yard run for this second touchdown run of the quarter and a 21-0 advantage at 8:59. Sophomore wide receiver Manning Lasso (Raleigh, NC) had a nine-yard reception during the possession.

H-SC quickly scored again as sophomore cornerback Parks Cromwell (Charlotte, NC) made an interception that he returned 43 yards for the 'pick six' defensive touchdown at 5:48 of the quarter for a 28-0 lead. The Tigers followed with another interception on the ensuing Bison possession, this time by freshman safety Bristan DeRocher (Marietta, GA), and the visitors took over at the GU 48. It took five plays to score as freshman running back Will Foley (Virginia Beach) scored on a 38-yard touchdown run at 3:14. The PAT kick was no good, however, and the margin was 34-0 after the opening quarter.

The Tigers were back on the scoreboard early in the second quarter when Creech connected with sophomore wide receiver Tyler Hendley (Charlotte, NC) on a 39-yard touchdown pass at 14:22. The PAT kick made it a 41-0 margin after a four-play, 59-yard drive—following another turnover on downs—that included an 11-yard run by Creech and a 14-yard reception by senior running back Joseph Gonzalez (Spotsylvania).

H-SC got the ball back after another punt and drove 73 yards on nine plays with Creech scoring on a six-yard touchdown run at 7:59, but the PAT was no good again, leaving the advantage at 47-0. The possession included completions of 15 yards each to junior wide receivers James Bishop (Jacksonville, FL) and Aaron Chaney (Belmont, NC), along with runs of 10 yards by Chaney and 17 yards by Gonzalez.

Another three-and-out by GU gave the ball back to the Tigers at their own 40 and a four-play, 60-yard drive resulted in an 18-yard touchdown run by Foley at 4:14 of the second quarter for a 54-0 margin. Foley also had a 32-yard run, while Hendley added a 10-yard reception.

H-SC forced yet another three-and-out and the Garnet & Grey took over at their own 29 with 3:14 left in the half. The Tigers drove the 71 yards on 12 plays as Creech connected with Chaney on a 14-yard touchdown pass with no time remaining and a 61-0 lead at halftime. The drive featured runs of 10, 12 and eight yards by sophomore running back Brice Pool (Danville), who had 33 yards on the ground as well as a six-yard reception.

GU scored its lone touchdown of the game on the opening possession of the second half when Dakota Fisher scored on a five-yard run at 5:06. Jacob Hundley was successful on the two-point conversion attempt on the ground to provide for the final 61-8 margin.

The Tigers turned it over via an interception in the Bison end zone on their only possession of the third quarter, and the hosts were stopped on downs at the visitor's 22 on the next possession that ended in the fourth quarter. H-SC had one more possession in the fourth quarter that resulted in its lone punt of the day late in the contest as the third and fourth quarters were shortened to 12 minutes each. Sophomore quarterback Wendell Thompson (Charlotte, NC) had a 12-yard completion to sophomore wide receiver Phillip Dube (Glen Allen) on the first possession, and Pool added a nine-yard run, while Thompson had completions of 12 and 14 yards to junior wide receiver Drew Bonner (Nashville, TN), along with a 14-yard run, on the other possession of the half.

H-SC totaled over 500 yards of total offense (522) for the fifth time this season, including 291 yards rushing and 231 yards passing. Creech passed for his game-highs and career-highs of 127 yards (9-15-0) and two touchdowns, adding 17 yards rushing on two attempts and one touchdown. Sido played just four series and passed for 66 yards (5-8-0) and one touchdown. Thompson passed for 38 yards (3-8-1), adding 15 yards rushing on two attempts. Foley rushed for his game-highs and career-highs of 98 yards on five attempts and two touchdowns. Hicks added his 79 yards on seven attempts and two touchdowns, playing only three series. Pool finished with 44 yards rushing on a career-high 11 attempts and one touchdown, adding his first collegiate reception for six yards receiving. Hendley had a game-high and career-high 49 yards receiving on a career-high two receptions and one touchdown. Cunningham had 37 yards receiving on two receptions and one touchdown, playing only three series, as well, and Chaney added career-highs of 36 yards receiving on three receptions and one touchdown, along with 14 yards rushing on two attempts.

Freshman linebacker Gavin Gallavan (Richmond) had six tackles to lead the Tigers' defensive effort. Senior defensive tackle Wyatt Croson (Warrenton) and freshman linebacker Jefferson Meade (Ashland) each had five tackles, including 0.5 for loss by Meade and a pass breakup by Croson. Senior linebacker and team captain Robert Clarke (Atlanta, GA), junior safety Wade Warren (Raleigh, NC), sophomore linebacker Frank Brewer (Charlotte, NC), sophomore safety Mitch Ladamus (Fort Mill, SC), freshman linebacker Ashton Lawler (Mechanicsville) and freshman safety Kevin Willoughby (Greensboro, NC) each had four tackles … with 0.5 for loss by Clarke, a pass breakup by Warren and a quarterback hurry by Lawler. Cromwell had his pick six return of 43 yards and DeRocher also added his interception.

Gabe Segovia passed for 115 yards (11-23-2) with two interceptions for GU. Fisher had 94 yards rushing on 14 attempts and one touchdown. Kamr McLean had 33 yards receiving on four receptions. Taran Johnson had a game-high 10 tackles for the Bison.

H-SC returns home next weekend to welcome ODAC opponent Bridgewater College on Saturday, November 8, at 1 p.m. on Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium. It will be Senior Day for 20 Tigers who will be recognized during a special pregame ceremony.
