HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney College will play its fifth consecutive road game to begin the 2021 campaign at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Emory & Henry College on Friday, February 5, at 5 p.m. in Emory. The visiting Tigers are 0-4 overall, 0-3 in the ODAC, while the host Wasps are 0-1 overall, 0-1 in the ODAC. Scouting the Tigers
H-SC is competing in its second season under the direction of head coach
Caleb Kimbrough, who is assisted by
Bryson Gibson,
Daniel Eacho and
Quinn Newton. The Tigers fell on the road in ODAC action at Ferrum by a score of 70-63 on Feb. 2 in Ferrum. H-SC has been led through its first four games by senior captain
Jake Hahn/Ruckersville, averaging 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds; standout freshman
DJ Wright/Greensboro, GA, averaging 13.5 points along with a team-best 14 three-point field goals (48%); junior
Jack Wyatt/Richmond averaging 8.0 points and 4.5 rebounds; sophomore
Ryan Clements/Conyers, GA averaging 7.5 points and 3.3 assists; and freshman
Josiah Hardy/Ashburn averaging 7.3 points and 4.5 rebounds. The Tigers are shooting 39% (96-249) from the field, including 32% (26-81) on three-pointers, and 79% (34-43) at the free throw line, while averaging 63.0 points and allowing 74.8 points.
Scouting the Wasps
E&H is coached by second-year head coach Ben Thompson, who is assisted by Matt Spencer and Rick Thompson. The Wasps dropped their first game of the season at Roanoke by a score of 81-52 on Feb. 2. E&H was led in its first game by senior Robert Holliday, Jr. with 17 points (3-5 3FGs) and 10 rebounds and junior Liam Bonk with 10 points (5-8 FGs). The Wasps shot 36% (19-53) from the field, including 29% (6-21) on three-pointers, and 53% (8-15) at the line. E&H canceled its first three games of the campaign. The school announced in November 2020 that it would pursue membership in NCAA Division II and has an invitation to join the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) with full membership expected in August 2024.
ODAC Series History vs. Emory & Henry
H-SC and E&H are playing for the 91st time as ODAC opponents since the 1976-77 season—both schools being charter members of the ODAC. The Tigers lead the conference series at 64-26, including a home win last season by a score of 74-56 on January 11, 2020 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium.

Chaise Johnson led H-SC with a game-high 15 points off the bench, adding four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Jack Wyatt finished with a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers.
Kevin Quinn also had 12 points, adding six rebounds, while
Chase Turner/Virginia Beach added 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Ryan Clements contributed eight points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. H-SC shot 41% (29-70) from the field, including 29% (7-24) on three-pointers, and 69% (9-13) at the line. The Tigers enjoyed a 30-13 advantage in bench points, 34-26 in points scored in the paint, and 15-9 in points off turnovers.

Jake Martin led E&H with a game-high 15 points. Micah Banks and Anthony Williams each finished with nine points for the Wasps. E&H shot 33% (19-58) from the field, including 14% (4-28) on three-pointers, and 78% (14-18) at the line.
