LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney swim team picked up a pair dual meet wins at the Lynchburg Invitational. The Tigers earned wins over Virginia Wesleyan and Southern Virginia. The University of Lynchburg hosted the meet at the Liberty Natatorium on the campus of Liberty University.
The Tigers defeated the Marlins, 178-63, while also picking up the win over the Knights 177-64. In the other dual score, host Lynchburg won 164-93.
In the 1000 Yard Free, sophomore Woody Parsons/Virginia Beach picked up the win in a time of 10:49.65, outdistancing second play Lynchburg by over 20 seconds. Junior Anthony Vinson/Richmond finished third in the event in a time of 11:40.27
The Tigers finished four, five, and six in the 200 Yard Free. Junior Eric Hope/Norfolk finished in a time of 2:03.86 while freshman Andrew Rehak/Radford touched the boards in a time of 2:04.93. Junior AJ Howard/Washington, N.C. rounded out the Tigers in the event with a time of 2:05.54.
Junior Zach Stephan/Hampton finished first in the 100 Yard Backstroke in a time of 0:55.56. Howard and Stephan also finished two and four, respectively, in the 200 Yard Fly. Howard finished with a time of 2:20.45 with Stephan finishing at the 2:29.25 mark.
Senior Brandon Koch/Spotsylvania finished fourth in the 50 Yard Free in a time of 0:23.49 while taking home third in the 100 Yard Free in a time of 0:52.35. Freshman Nick Benson/Atlanta, Ga. finished just one spot behind Koch in the 100 Yard Free in a time of 0:52.54.
In the 500 Yard Free, Vinson finish third behind Southern Virginia and Lynchburg in a time of 5:34.89. Parsons would win his second event of the day in the 100 Yard Fly in a time of 0:55.65.
Stephan won his first event of the day in the 200 Yard IM in a time of 2:07.24. Parsons took home third in the event while Hope finished fifth with times of 2:09.80 and 2:24.51, respectively.
In the final event of the meet, the 400 Yard Free Relay team of Koch, Hope, Howard, and Parsons finished second in a time of 3:34.95.
The Tigers (4-1) will travel to Randolph-Macon on Friday, November 15, for a dual against the Yellow Jackets. "The Meet" starts at 5 p.m.
