HAMPTON, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College competed over the weekend in the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The event was from November 21-23, and was won by Salisbury (MD) University, which scored 1502 points.
H-SC competed in one relay event, the 200 Yard Freestyle, with the foursome of Junior
Owen Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY), sophomore
Quinlan Ragsdale (Charlottesville), and freshmen
Ryan Barnett (Killeen, TX) and
Nikolias Theriault (Poland, ME), placing 13th with a time of 1:41.81.
Renfrow posted season bests in all three events he competed in over the weekend, starting with the 200 Yard IM, which saw his time of 2:14.70 be 9.80 seconds faster than his previous. He posted a 1:04.75 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, which was an improvement of 4.42 seconds on his previous, and a 2:31.38 in the 200 Yard Breaststroke for an improvement of 4.12 seconds on his season best time.
Ragsdale earned a place in the championship finals of the 100 Yard Backstroke after putting down a season-best 54.71 second time. He then placed 12th in the finals with a time of 55.10. In addition, he posted a season-best times of 22.01 in the 50 Yard Freestyle, and 50.11 in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Barnett put down a season-best time in the 50 Yard Freestyle, beating his previous best time by .96 seconds with a time of 29.32.
Theriault improved on his best time in the 50 Yard Freestyle, as his time of 28.04 was 3.02 seconds better than his previous. In addition, he posted a season-best times in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:14.37, and in the 100 yard Freestyle, with his time of 1:02.00 being 9.42 seconds faster than his previous best.
The Tigers will be off until the new year, when they return to action on January 17 at Randolph College at 12 p.m. at Bateman Aquatic Center.
