HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College senior right-hander and team captain Sterling Austin (Petersburg) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period April 6-12. Sterling made two appearances on the mound last week, tossing 11.0 scoreless innings and scattering seven hits with 11 strikeouts and only two walks allowed. This is the second time this season that he has been named the conference's pitcher of the week, including the week of February 16-22.

Austin started on the mound and pitched a complete game shutout with 9.0 scoreless innings during a 7-0 ODAC home win past Roanoke College on April 11 on Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium. He scattered six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks, retiring the Maroons in order in the first, third, fourth and fifth innings, while registering 12 fly outs and nine ground outs on the day. Sterling also tossed 2.0 scoreless innings during a 14-6 home win past non-conference opponent Greensboro (NC) College on April 8, yielding one hit with four strikeouts and no walks.

Austin has made 11 pitching appearances this season, including nine starts, with a record of 2-2 and a 6.07 ERA through 46.0 innings pitched with 40 strikeouts and 16 walks allowed. He is tied for eighth in the ODAC in strikeouts and is ninth in innings pitched.

H-SC (15-16, 8-7) has won three-straight games and five of its last six, and will resume its suspended game (from April 1) against (RV)Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday evening, April 14, at 4 p.m. at the Ty Cobb Ballpark – Wurdeman Stadium.
