Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) posted a first-round score of even-par 72 on Monday to lead the Hampden-Sydney College C Golf team to a round of 309 on Monday at the Glenn Heath Shipbuilders Memorial being played at the Williamsburg Golf Club in Williamsburg. The C team stands in a tie for first among 12 teams in the event, while Williams is tied for second among 73 collegiate golfers. Additionally, freshman

Hole-In-One of his golfing career with an eight-iron from 167 yards on the par 3 fifth hole.

Williams posted three birdies and 12 pars during his round on the par 72, 6,745-yard layout, and is being followed by freshman
Hudson Griffin (Pinehurst, NC) (74, 5th), junior
Nick Bernard (Southern Shores, NC) (81, T-36th), sophomore
Sean Acree (Chesterfield) (82, T-40th), along with junior
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (84, T-52nd). Griffin had one eagle (par 5, 520-yard seventh), one birdie and 13 pars. Bernard had two birdies and eight pars. Acree had three birdies and five pars. Weinstein had one birdie and seven pars.

The Tigers' B Team is competing in the tournament, as well, and posted a round of 322 to stand seventh. Junior
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) is leading the group with his round of 75 that is tied for sixth individually. He posted one eagle (par 5, 471-yard fourth), one birdie and 10 pars, and is being followed by older brother and senior
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (78, T-20th), along with seniors
Jack Hoyle (Midlothian) (84, T-52nd),
Jack Davis (Radford) (85, T-56th) and
Cole Wright (Wake Forest, NC) (89, T-67th).
Pierce Lambert had one eagle (par 5, 558-yard 10th), two birdies and eight pars. Hoyle had two birdies and six pars. Davis had nine pars. Wright had one birdie and six pars.

Parash is playing as an individual and posted a round of 80 that is tied for 27th individually, and in addition to his rare hole-in-one, added two birdies and seven pars on the day.

The H-SC B Team is tied with Virginia Wesleyan University (309), while Owen Taylor of Christopher Newport University is the individual leader at one-under par 71.

The two H-SC teams will continue and complete competition in the two-day, 36-hole tournament on Tuesday in Williamsburg.
