Hampden-Sydney Finishes Third At The West Pines Collegiate

FINAL RESULTS

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. – Freshman Til Wagner (Charlotte, NC) posted a round three score of even-par 71 on Tuesday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a final round team score of four-over par 288 at the West Pines Collegiate played at the West Pines Golf Club in Douglasville, Georgia. The Tigers finished third among 24 teams with their season-best 54-hole team score of one-under par 285-278-288—851, the program's lowest three-round total since winning the 2022 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship on April 29-30 that year at the Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet. Sophomore Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) posted a collegiate-best 54-hole score of four-under par 71-66-72—209 at the par 71, 6,801-yard layout to lead the Garnet & Grey and finish in a tie for fifth individually among the 127 golfers.

Matthew Teegardin was followed closely by junior Luke Combs (Newport News) at three-under par 66-72-72—210 that tied for seventh, along with Til Wagner at even-par 74-68-71—213 that tied for 15th, junior Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) at 74-76-73—223 that tied for 65th and senior Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) at 80-72-75—227 that tied for 81st. Senior Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) played as an individual and posted two-under par 69-68-74—211 that tied for 10th. Combs, Wagner and Weinstein each posted collegiate-best scores for 54 holes, as well.

Teegardin tied for fourth among the tournament field with 13 birdies, adding 33 pars, while tying for sixth in par 4 scoring (3.96, -1), tying for 10th in par 3 scoring (3.00, E) and tying for 21st in par 5 scoring (4.75, -3). Combs tied for sixth with 12 birdies, adding 34 pars, while tying for first in par 4 scoring (3.89, -3) and tying for second in par 3 scoring (2.87, -2). Wagner tied for 21st in pars with 36, adding nine birdies, while tying for eighth in par 5 scoring (4.58, -5) and tying for 15th in par 4 scoring (4.04, +1). Williams had one eagle in round one with a three on the par 5, 530-yard 17th hole, along with seven birdies and 31 pars, and Barnes had five birdies and 31 pars. Weinstein tied for 12th in birdies with 11, and tied for 21st in pars with 36, while tying for first in par 5 scoring (4.42, -7) and tying for sixth in par 3 scoring (2.93, -1).

Tournament host Oglethorpe (GA) University, ranked 10th in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches' Poll, won the event with its 17-under par 274-271-290—835, while Patrick O'Rourke of Christopher Newport University took individual medalist honors at nine-under par 64-70-70—204. The Tigers had posted a season-best team score of one-under par 285-278—563 on Monday, their lowest 18-hole team round since 2022 (274) and their lowest 36-hole score since 2019 (559).

H-SC will play again next week at prestigious The Tartan Invitational, a two-day, 54-hole tournament on October 12-13 at the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
