GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Til Wagner (Charlotte, NC) posted a 36-hole score of even par 73-71—144 on Monday to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a team score of 295-294—589 at the Gate City Invitational being played at the Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Tigers stand eighth among the 18 teams in the collegiate golf event, while Wagner is tied for 13th individually among the 99 golfers.

Wagner had seven birdies and 22 pars during his first two collegiate rounds at the par 72, 7,120-yard course, and is being followed by senior Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (77-72—149, T-33) and junior Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) (73-76—149, T-33), junior Luke Combs (Newport News) (76-75—151, T-47), along with sophomore Matthew Teegardin (Charleston, SC) (73-80—153, T-60). Barnes had seven birdies and 18 pars. Williams had seven birdies and 19 pars. Combs had five birdies and 20 pars. Teegardin had four birdies and 24 pars.

Huntingdon (AL) is leading the event with its seven-under par 281-288—569, while Drew Silman of Covenant (GA) is the individual leader after 36 holes at five-under par 68-71—139.

H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Tuesday, September 15, in Greensboro.
