It's Hall of Fame Weekend at the College as the Class of 2025 will be inducted on Sept. 19 and then recognized at halftime on Sept. 20. H-SC took a
38-31 home win past non-conference opponent (RV)Washington & Jefferson (PA) on Sept. 13 at Everett Stadium, and is receiving votes this week in both the both the
AFCA D3 Coaches Poll (44) and the
D3football.com Top 25 (3). SU took a 29-28 non-conference road win at Geneva (PA) on Sept. 13. The Tigers are competing in their 131st season of football and 50th year as a charter member of the ODAC. The Hornets joined the conference as a full-time member beginning with the 2012-13 academic year.

Head Coach Vince Luvara
H-SC is led by the second-year head coach who took over the program on December 7, 2023. The former defensive coordinator at Washington & Jefferson from 2016-23, Luvara is the 29th head coach in the 131-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native is no stranger to NCAA Division III, having played four years at Allegheny (PA) College and coached one year at Allegheny and two years at Misericordia (PA) University—each school members of Division III. Luvara is 7-5 at the College.
The Series
H-SC leads the overall series against SU, 8-5. The Hornets, however, defeated the Tigers
35-7 last November 9 in Winchester as Jalen Redfearn rushed for 247 yards on 38 attempts and two touchdowns—the home team totaled 387 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Prior to that, H-SC had won three out of four against SU, including a thrilling
26-25 overtime victory on Nov. 4, 2023 at Everett Stadium as the Tigers blocked a PAT kick in OT for the win in former head coach Marty Favret's final home game. The Hornets last win at Everett Stadium was in 2019, a 21-17 road triumph.

Senior quarterback and team captain
Carter Sido (Dallas, TX) has passed for 489 yards (28-52-1) and seven touchdowns with one interception thrown in two games—adding 61 yards rushing. He leads the ODAC in passing yards, passing yards per game (244.5), passing touchdowns, passing efficiency (173.4) and total offense (275.0), and is fifth in completion percentage (53.8). Carter ranks eighth in Division III passing touchdowns, ninth in passing yards per completion (17.46), 17th in points responsible for (42), 20th in yards per pass attempt (9.59), 22nd in passing efficiency, 29th in points responsible for per game (21.0), 40th in passing yards and 47th in total offense.
Junior running back
Terry Hicks (Clayton, NC) has rushed for 193 yards on 46 attempts (4.2) and two touchdowns, adding one reception for 30 yards. He is tied for first in the ODAC in rushing touchdowns, second in rushing yards and rushing yards per game and ninth in all-purpose yards (223). Hicks ranks 44th in DIII rushing yards.
Sophomore wide receiver
Manning Lasso (Raleigh, NC) has nine receptions for 155 yards and two touchdowns. He is tied for third in the ODAC in receiving touchdowns and total touchdowns, fifth in receiving yards, tied for fifth in receptions and sixth in receiving yards per game (77.5) and yards per reception (17.2). Mason Cunningham (Arlington) has five receptions for 116 yards and three touchdowns. Joseph Gonzalez (Spotsylvania) has averaged 31.4 yards on eight kick returns, including a long of 51 yards. He leads the ODAC in kick return yards (251) and is second in kick return average and all-purpose yards (315). Joseph ranks fourth in DIII kick return yards, 17th in kick return average and 36th in all-purpose yards.

Sophomore quarterback Jack Pearson has passed for 331 yards (28-49-1) and two touchdowns with one interception thrown in two games, while senior quarterback Mason Anderson has passed for 282 yards (15-36-1) and three touchdowns with one interception thrown. Senior running back Jalen Redfearn has rushed for 179 yards on 41 attempts (4.4). Junior running back Aidan McCloskey has rushed for 69 yards on eight attempts (8.6) and one touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Roge't Walker has nine receptions for 162 yards and one touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Caleb Weston has eight receptions for 157 yards and one touchdown.
Senior linebacker Matt Conroy has 25 tackles, including 2.0 for loss, 1.5 sacks and one quarterback hurry. Graduate defensive back Sean Perry has 14 tackles, including 1.5 for loss and one pass breakup.

Robert Clarke is the program's nominee for the 2025 William V. Campbell Trophy®, college football's premier scholar-athlete award. He hopes to be the College's sixth-straight semifinalist, following in the footsteps of Tyler Howerton '21, Kaleb Smith '22, Michael Harris '23, George Langhammer '24 and
Will Thomas '25—Howerton went on to become one of 12 finalists for the prestigious award in 2020. Robert is a Dean's List student majoring in economics and business with a minor in rhetoric, and has attained a 3.59 GPA.

Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®
Carter Sido was nominated for the 2025 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, recognizing college football student-athletes and head coaches for their commitment to community service and leadership beyond the gridiron. He estimates that he devoted 40-plus hours of service to the following causes during 2024-25: The Big Event, Literacy Days and the Brother4Brother Mentorship Program. Carter is also a member of QBs vs Cancer, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a common objective to raise money in the fight against cancer—his efforts benefit Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. He did not make the final roster of 23 award recipients announced on September 16.
Hampden-Sydney Football
H-SC has a 130-plus year history of football, amassing 585 wins since beginning in 1892. The Tigers have experienced great success over the years, including nine ODAC Championships, 10 Mason-Dixon Conference Championships, seven NCAA Division III Championship Playoff appearances, 88 All-America selections, 13 Academic All-America selections and 223 First Team All-ODAC honorees. H-SC also played in the 1970 and 1971 Knute Rockne Bowls (NCAA College Division East Regional Championship).
From Division III To FBS Memphis
Ryan Silverfield '03 became the 25th head coach in the University of Memphis football history in December 2019 and began his tenure by leading the Tigers into their first major bowl game appearance: the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas. He is currently 45-21 overall in his sixth season at the helm of the Tigers, including 3-0 in 2025. Silverfield led Memphis to a record of 11-2 in 2024, including a 42-37 win past West Virginia in the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl on December 17, 2024 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Ryan coached four seasons as an undergraduate at H-SC, starting as an offensive assistant in 2000, serving as the defensive line coach during 2001 and 2002, before coaching the tight ends and H-backs in 2003.
