HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Sophomore Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) posted a first-round score of five-under par 67 on Monday to lead the Hampden-Sydney College B Golf Team to a round of 291 at the Kinder-Williams Invitational being played at the Lakeview Golf Club in Harrisonburg. Williams stands first among the 91 collegiate golfers, while the Tigers' B Team stands fourth among 16 teams.

Williams had seven birdies and nine pars during his opening round at the par 72, 6,748-yard layout, and is being followed on the B Team by sophomore Sean Acree (Chesterfield) (72, T-12), junior Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (75, T-25), junior Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (77, T-41) and senior Jack Hoyle (Midlothian) (78, T-51). Acree had four birdies and 11 pars on his round.

The H-SC C Golf Team is also competing in the event and is being led by freshman Hudson Griffin (Pinehurst, NC) who posted a one-over par 73—tied for 17th—with three birdies and 10 pars, helping the squad to a round of 309 to stand in a tie for 11th. He is being followed by junior Tucker Poole (Norfolk) (78, T-51), senior Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (79, T-62) and freshman Mike Parash (Southampton, NY) (79, T-62), along with senior Jack Craig (Raleigh, NC) (88, T-87).

Bridgewater is leading the tournament with its opening round of 288.

The H-SC B/C Teams will continue and complete its competition in the 36-hole event on Tuesday, September 16 in Harrisonburg.
