RACE RESULTS
BRIDGEWATER, Va. -- Junior
Jackson Herndon (Chatham) posted a collegiate-best 6K time of 21:38.0 to lead Hampden-Sydney College to a fourth-place finish at the
Eagle Cross Country Challenge hosted by Bridgewater College on Friday evening in Bridgewater. Herndon placed 16th among 73 runners as the Tigers totaled 114 points to finish fourth among seven teams. Roanoke College won the team race with its 15 points, while Shane Stevens of the Maroons was the individual winner with a time of 19:16.0.
Herndon was followed on the Bridgewater College Course by sophomore
Jordan Chorbaji (Charlottesville) (22:01.1, 22nd), senior
Winston Ransone (Midlothian) (22:06.3, 27th), along with juniors
Kam Maldonado (Palm Bay, FL) (22:39.5, 39th) and
Dylan Evans (Virginia Beach) (22:58.0, 42nd) among the Tigers' top five. Chorbaji, Ransone, Maldonado and Evans also posted new collegiate-best times for the distance.
Also competing for H-SC were freshman
Jack Ruble (Floyd) (25:39.2, 62nd), junior
Davis Mills (Sanford, NC) (30:18.3, 70th) and sophomore
William Cole (Virginia Beach) (30:54.8, 72nd). Ruble was running the distance for the first time in college, while Cole posted a new collegiate-best time for the distance, as well. It was the program's first competition under the direction of first-year head coach
Jared Deaton.
H-SC will race again at the
Lancer Home Open, an 8K event hosted by nearby Longwood University on Saturday, September 6, at 10 a.m. at the former Longwood Golf Course in Farmville.
