Hampden-Sydney Adds Tyler Peterson, Kyle Lafayette '25 & Thomas Robinson To Football Coaching Staff

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney College second-year head football coach Vince Luvara has announced the recent appointments of Tyler Peterson, Kyle Lafayette '25 and Thomas Robinson to his coaching staff. Peterson will coach tight ends and serve as the assistant special teams coordinator, assistant director of football operations and assistant video coordinator. Lafayette will coach nickel backs in the secondary, while Robinson will coach running backs.

"We cannot be more excited to add Kyle, Tyler and Thomas to the staff," said Luvara. "They are all great coaches that will add tremendous value to our team and coaching staff. They're tireless workers and fit in well with the mission of Hampden-Sydney College."

Tyler Peterson previously served as the wide receivers coach and pass game coordinator at Highland (KS) Community College since May 2025, where he was involved in all aspects of the program, including creation of the offensive playbook for this season. Peterson had served as a student assistant at Washington State University from February 2024 to May 2025 where he worked under current head coach Jimmy Rogers and Jake Dicker, now at Wake Forest University. WSU finished 8-5 in 2024 and played in the DirecTV Holiday Bowl in San Diego.

A native of Hockinson, Washington, Tyler graduated from Washington State in 2025 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science. Peterson earned an Associate of Arts degree at Clark (WA) College in 2022 where he was a member of the cross country and track and field programs. He has additional football coaching experience at Lincoln Middle School (2023-24) in Pullman, Washington, as well as with the Pullman School District (track and field, 2023).

Kyle Lafayette was a four-year team member with the Tigers (2021-24), starting eight of 28 career games in the defensive secondary and had 31 career total tackles, including 19 solo and one assist, 0.5 career tackles for loss, one career interception, two career pass breakups, one career quarterback hurry, one career forced fumble, one career blocked field goal attempt and one career two-point defensive conversion. He added two career kick returns for 34 yards (17.0), including a long return of 20 yards.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Kyle is continuing pursuit of his Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at the College. His older brother, Tobias '24, was also a four-year team member with the Tigers (2020-23).

Thomas Robinson previously served as an assistant coach at Appomattox County High School for eight years from 2015-20, and again from 2023-24, additionally serving as the head coach at Appomattox County Middle School for three years (2016-18). He helped coach ACHS to five Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 2A State Championships in six years (2015-17, 2019-20). The Raiders combined overall record during their five VHSL title seasons was 66-3, including unbeaten seasons in 2015 (15-0), 2016 (15-0) and 2020 (9-0, played in spring '21 due to COVID-19).

A native of Pamplin, Thomas graduated from Longwood University in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education. He earned his Associate's Degree in education from Central Virginia Community College in 2023.
