PRATTVILLE, Ala. -- The nationally-ranked No. 16 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a first-round score of 316 on Monday to stand 17th among 18 teams at the Capitol City Invitational being played at the RTJ Golf Trail at Capitol Hill in Prattville, Alabama. Senior All-American Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) is leading the Tigers with his opening round of four-over par 76 that is tied for 42nd individually among the 90 collegiate golfers. The tournament had been scheduled for 36 holes on Monday, but weather conditions delayed the start and the event has been shortened to 36 holes total, including another 18 holes on Tuesday.
 
Rubino posted three birdies and nine pars during his round on the par 72, 7,243-yard layout, and is being followed by seniors Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (77, T-51st) and John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (81, T-73rd), along with sophomore Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (82, T-78th) and freshman Luke Combs (Newport News) (82, T-78th). Lott posted three birdies and eight pars and Hutcheson had two birdies and seven pars, while Barnes had nine pars and Combs had one birdie and eight pars.
 
The competitive tournament field features 10 teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest SCOREBOARD powered by clippd NCAA Division III Men's Golf rankings, including five of the Top 10, as tournament host and ninth-ranked Huntingdon College is leading the event with its four-under par team round of 284. There are four golfers tied for the individual lead at three-under par 69, including Jonathan McEwen of fellow Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member and second-ranked Washington and Lee University.
 
H-SC will continue its competition in the two-day, now 36-hole tournament on Tuesday, April 8, with tee-times beginning at 8 a.m. in Alabama.
