PINEHURST, N.C. -- The No. 16 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a round of 296 on Sunday to stand fifth among 20 teams at their own
Tiger Invitational being played at the Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Freshman
Luke Combs (Newport News) is leading the Tigers with his two-under par 70 that is tied for sixth individually among the 100 collegiate golfers.
Combs posted four birdies and 11 pars during his opening round on the par 72, 6,701-yard layout. He is being followed by seniors
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (72, T-13th),
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (75, T-33rd) and All-American and team captain
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) (79, T-72nd), along with sophomore
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (80, T-82nd). Hutchinson had four birdies and nine pars, Lott had two birdies and 10 pars, Rubino had 10 pars, and Barnes had one birdie and nine pars.
No. 2 Methodist (NC) University is leading the event with its seven-under par 281, while MU's Chase Watts is the individual leader at six-under par 66.
The Tigers' B Team is competing in the same event, posting a round of 318 to stand 19th among the 20 teams in that tournament. Sophomore
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) is leading the group with his 78 that is tied for 62nd individually among the 100 golfers.
Weinstein posted 12 pars during his opening round, and is being followed by junior
Pierce Lambert (Hartfield) (79, T-72nd) and senior team captain
Knox Sirmans (Rome, GA) (79, T-72nd), sophomore
Peyton Lambert (Hartfield) (82, T-89th), along with freshman
Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (83, T92nd).
Pierce Lambert had three birdies and six pars, Sirmans had one birdie and nine pars,
Peyton Lambert had three birdies and five pars, and Tobin had two birdies and five pars.
H-SC will continue and complete its competition in the two-day, 36-hole tournament on Monday in North Carolina.

Garnett Hall (Richmond) is leading the C Team with his one-over par 73 that is tied for eighth individually among the 92 collegiate golfers on the par 72, 6,974-yard layout.
Hall, who had one eagle on the day, is being followed by junior

Groves Williams (Greenville, SC) (81, T-50th), senior
Brody Smith (Yorktown) (82, T-56th), along with freshman

Carnegie Mellon (PA) University's B Team is leading the event with its 296, while CMU's Justin Luan is the individual leader at three-under par 69.
