No. 15 Hampden-Sydney Tied For 14th At The Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. -- The nationally-ranked No. 15 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a second-round score of 295 on Saturday for a 36-hole team score of 297-295—592 to stand in a tie for 14th among 30 teams at the annual Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational being played at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Georgia. Senior All-American Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) is leading the Tigers with his even par 73-71—144 that is tied for 14th individually among the 150 collegiate golfers.
 
Rubino posted three birdies and 13 pars during his one-under par round of 71 on the par 72, 6,700-yard Pine Lakes layout. He is being followed by sophomore Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (73-73—146, T-25th), freshman Luke Combs (Newport News) (73-77—150, T-63rd), along with seniors John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (78-75—153, T-99th) and Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (79-76—155, T-114th). Barnes had one eagle (485-yard, par 5 18th), three birdies and 10 pars during his second round. Combs had four birdies and seven pars. Hutcheson had two birdies and 11 pars, while Lott had three birdies and 11 pars.
 
The large and highly-competitive tournament field features 16 teams that are ranked among the Top 25 nationally in the latest SCOREBOARD powered by clippd NCAA Division III Men's Golf rankings, including seven of the Top 10, as fourth-ranked Sewanee (TN) (289-285) and fifth-ranked Emory (GA) (288-286) are tied for the lead at two-under par 574 with one round remaining. Jonas De Leon of 16th-ranked Redlands (CA) is the individual leader at nine-under par 66-69—135. The 15th-ranked Tigers are currently ahead of two schools ranked higher than them after day two, and only two shots out of the Top 10.
 
H-SC will continue and conclude its competition in the three-day, 54-hole tournament on Sunday, March 23, with tee-times beginning at 9:50 a.m. in Georgia.
