(8)Hampden-Sydney Welcomes Eastern Mennonite For Senior Day On Saturday At 2 p.m.

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College, ranked No. 8 in the latest D3hoops.com Top 25, welcomes Eastern Mennonite University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball action on Saturday afternoon, February 22, at 2 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House. The nationally-ranked Tigers are 20-4 overall, 13-2 in the ODAC, following an 81-72 conference road loss at (RV)Roanoke College on Feb. 15 in Salem—stopping their recent 10-game winning streak. The Royals are 5-19 overall, 2-13 in the ODAC, after a 74-59 home loss to Shenandoah University on Feb. 18 in Harrisonburg—their fourth-straight loss. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, while available to watch on the Tiger Sports Network live video stream at hscathletics.com. It will be Senior Day and the regular-season finale, and as a reminder, it's free admission for all regular season home athletic contests at the College.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the sixth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 115-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the ODAC, having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 103-42 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.710) ranks second all-time. He is the back-to-back National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), and was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year.

H-SC has been led by All-American fifth-year guard and third-year team captain Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC), who is averaging 18.3 points (39 3FGs, 86% FTs), 3.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists. Junior forward and team captain Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averages 13.2 points (55% FGs), 7.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while junior transfer guard and team captain Colin Radcliffe (Richlands, NC) adds 9.6 points (45 3FGs-43%) and 3.0 rebounds. Other top contributors include freshman guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) (7.9 points, 3.5 rebounds), senior guard Nick Shryock (Davidson, NC) (6.6 points, 5.8 rebounds), junior transfer guard Hamilton Campbell (Wytheville) (6.5 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists), senior guard Ayman McGowan (Memphis, TN) (6.0 points, 31 3FGs) and freshman forward John Campbell (High Point, NC) (5.5 points, 68% FGs). H-SC shoots 47% (691-1463) from the field, including 33% (179-541) on three-point field goals, and 71% (358-503) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 80.0 points, and yielding 68.8 points, for a +11.2 scoring margin.

Scouting Eastern Mennonite
EMU is coached by seventh-year head coach Melvin Felix and has been led by sophomore guard Aaron Brooks (12.8 points, 27 3FGs, 3.7 assists) and senior guard/forward Aviwe Mahlong (11.4 points, 26 3FGs, 4.3 rebounds). The Royals shoot 40% (538-1334) from the field, including 32% (195-618) on three-pointers, and 72% (269-375) at the line. EMU is scoring 64.2 points, and yielding 73.6 points, for a -9.4 scoring margin.

Series History
H-SC
and EMU are playing for the 88th time as ODAC opponents since the 1976-77 season. The Tigers lead the conference series at 63-24, including five-straight wins, the most recent being a 75-44 road win on Feb. 1 in Harrisonburg. H-SC also won the last time the two teams played in Fleet Gym (last season), 102-61, on January 13, 2024.

is ninth in program history with 1,498 career points in 117 career games, and is seventh in career assists with 365. He adds 146 career steals (11th all-time) and 229 career three-pointers. Russell Turner '92—the current head coach at UC Irvine—is the all-time scoring leader (2,272).

ranks 19th nationally in winning percentage (83.3), 33rd in assist/turnover ratio (1.40), 36th in scoring margin (11.2), 42nd in field goal percentage (47.2) and 49th in fewest turnovers (11.0). Adam Brazil ranks 30th in assist/turnover ration (2.45) and 49th in free throw percentage (86.4).

is ranked No. 8 nationally in the week 11 D3hoops.com Top 25 (2/17). The Tigers, ranked fourth last week, earned 428 points and remains among the Top 10 for the ninth consecutive ranking. Wesleyan (CT) (24-0) is first again this week with 623 points.

Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Trevor Hudgins Award Top 25 Watch List on Feb. 1. The Trevor Hudgins Award is presented annually to the senior who has had the finest overall four-year career within Small College Basketball.


Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List
Adam Brazil
was named to the 2024-25 Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List on Jan. 15. The Clarence "Bevo" Francis Award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA. Adam is the second-straight finalist from the program, as Davidson Hubbard '24 made the 2023-24 Watch List.

2024-25 DIII Men's Hoops MVP Voting
Vote once daily for Adam Brazil in the online D3 Data Division III MVP Voting. Adam is among 20 candidates for this first-time honor with voting available through March 17. The field was narrowed to 20 players using a number of empirical measures including multiple advanced player statistics and team performance. The top five players with the most points will be announced when voting closes and ultimately the Men's Hoops MVP will be crowned.


2024-25 Team Captains
Leading the Tigers are fifth-year Adam Brazil, along with juniors Shane Fernald and Colin Radcliffe. Brazil is serving in the leadership role for his third season, while Fernald and Radcliffe are each first-year captains. Adam is the son of Mark and Kristen Brazil and is majoring in English with minors in leadership in the public interest and rhetoric. Shane is the son of the late Jon Fernald and Cathy Smith and is majoring in English with a minor in rhetoric. Colin is the son of Ian and Sarah Radcliffe and is majoring in history.

2024-25 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided again this season by Bryson Gibson, promoted to associate head coach in May, while also in his sixth year with the program, third-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Trevor Loscombe.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC
has made at least one three-point field goal in 517 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

Program History

is competing in its 115th-year of basketball during 2024-25. The Tigers began this season with an overall program record of 1,517-1,096 since beginning in 1908, and currently total 1,537 wins. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and has made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Three Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has three former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 15th year at UC Irvine ... Ryan Odom '96 is in his second season at VCU and his ninth season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State) ... Griff Aldrich '96 is in his seventh year at Longwood. Through Feb. 19, Turner was 311-184 at UCI (22-4 this season) ... Odom was 204-116 overall, including 44-19 at VCU (21-5  this season), 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 126-97 at Longwood (17-11 this season). Add fifth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (42-21, 2024 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl Champion, 11-2) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches.

H-SC will remain at home to host an ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament Quarterfinal contest on Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m. in Fleet Gym. Tickets can be purchased at the Athletic Administrative Office in the Kirk Athletic Center on Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 24-25, from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and at the entrance to Fleet Gym on Wednesday, Feb. 26, beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, free for H-SC students with their college ID and free for high school students and younger. Official tournament pairings will be announced by the ODAC Office on Saturday night, Feb. 22, and will be available on our website.
