HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- (17)Hampden-Sydney College plays on the road at Salisbury (MD) University in non-conference basketball action on Wednesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in Salisbury, Maryland. The visiting Tigers are 1-1 overall and ranked 17th-nationally in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25. The host Sea Gulls are 1-0 overall. The game can be heard locally on WVHL Radio, Kickin' Country 92.9 FM, and will also be available worldwide on the Internet  at wvhl.net or via the TuneIn Radio App, pregame airing at 5:30 p.m., while available to watch online as well on the Sea Gull Sports Network.

Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the seventh-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 116-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford (NC) College and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee University. Kimbrough is 107-45 at the College, ranking sixth in program coaching wins, while his current winning percentage (.704) ranks second all-time. He is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2022-23, 2023-24), was the 2022-23 ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year and the 2024-25 D3hoops.com Region 6 Coach of the Year.

2025-26 Coaching Staff
Coach Kimbrough is aided this season by second-year associate head coach Bryson Gibson, also in his seventh year with the program, fourth-year assistant coach Carson Long, along with first-year assistant coach Zach Hinton.

Scouting the No. 17 Tigers
H-SC opened the season at the TowneBank Tipoff Tournament in Virginia Beach, dropping a 77-75 overtime decision to (7)UW-La Crosse on Nov. 7, before taking a 79-61 victory past (RV)Keene State (NH) on Nov. 8. The Tigers were led by sophomore guard Santana Lynch (Dallas, TX), who averaged 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 69% (11-16) from the field in the two games to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Sophomore guard Peter Moye (Charlotte, NC) averaged 14.0 points and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 55% (11-20) from the field with four three-point field goals. Sophomore guard Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) added 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, along with eight steals, while senior forward Shane Fernald (Charlotte, NC) averaged 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds, along with six assists in the two games. H-SC shot 51% (58-113) from the field, including 29% (8-28) on three-pointers, and 58% (30-52) at the free throw line. The Tigers are scoring 77.0 points, and yielding 69.0 points, for a +8.0 scoring margin.

Scouting Salisbury
SU began with an 83-74 home win past Stockton (NJ) on Nov. 8. The Sea Gulls are coached by seventh-year head coach  Maurice "Mo" Williams and were led by junior guard Jamison Graves with a game-high 26 points against Stockton, including 5-10 three-pointers and five steals. Senior guard Aidan Camper had 15 points and five rebounds in the contest, while graduate Churchill Bounds added 13 points and six rebounds.

Series History
H-SC and SU are playing for just the fourth time, and the Tigers lead the young series at 2-1. H-SC won the most recent meeting by a score of 64-58 on December 30, 2023 in Fleet Gym, and the Garnet & Grey took a 77-64 road win on January 21, 2023 in Maryland. The Sea Gulls own a 68-62 home win in the championship game of their own Optimist Classic tournament back on Dec. 6, 2009.

ODAC Preseason Poll
H-SC was picked fourth in the 2025-26 ODAC Preseason Poll. The Tigers earned 96 points among the 12 conference schools. Randolph-Macon was picked first with 121 points and 11 first-place votes, while Virginia Wesleyan was chosen second with 104 points, followed by Roanoke in third with 103 points and the other first-place vote, H-SC (fourth, 96) and Lynchburg with 81 points to round-out the Top Five. The remainder of the poll includes Shenandoah (64), Guilford (58) and Washington and Lee (58), Averett (34), Bridgewater (33), Randolph (26) and Eastern Mennonite (14).

Scheduling Toughness
H-SC plays another difficult schedule this season, one that includes seven schools ranked among the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25, including No. 2 Randolph-Macon, No. 3 Emory (GA), No. 6 Redlands (CA)—who defeated the Tigers 83-72 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament last March 14—No. 7 UWL, No. 10 Roanoke, No. 14 VWU, No. 21 Maryville (TN) and KSC, who is receiving votes in the preseason poll.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in 524 consecutive games, dating back to a 2005 home game vs. Emory & Henry (12/3, 0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest ... 130-99 without making a three-pointer.

Program History
H-SC is competing in its 116th-year of basketball during 2025-26. The Tigers have an overall program record of 1,541-1,103 since beginning in 1908. H-SC has posted 64 winning seasons, 18 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships.

NCAA Tournament History
H-SC has made 17 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989, winning at least one game in 14 of the 17 years, while compiling an overall NCAA Tournament record of 27-18. The Tigers advanced to the Final Four in 1999, 2003 and 2024, and to the National Championship in 1999 and 2024. H-SC was National Runner-Up in 2024, falling to Trine (IN) 69-61, as well as in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime. The Tigers fell to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the 2003 National Semifinals. H-SC advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003 and 2024, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2003, 2024 and 2025. The Tigers have hosted 24 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive record of 19-5.

Former Tigers Are Division I Head Coaches
H-SC currently has two former basketball team members and graduates of the College that are serving as NCAA Division I head coaches. Russell Turner '92 is in his 16th year at UC Irvine and Ryan Odom '96 is in his first season at Virginia and his 10th season as a DI head coach (UMBC, Utah State, VCU). Through Nov. 10, Turner was 323-188 at UCI (2-1 this season) and Odom was 203-117 overall, including 2-0 this season, 52-21 in two years at VCU, 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC. Griff Aldrich '96 is in his first season as the associate head coach at UVA after serving as head coach at Longwood the past seven seasons where he was 127-100 overall. Add sixth-year Memphis head football coach Ryan Silverfield '03 (50-23, 8-2 this season) and the Tigers have four alumni serving as DI head coaches or as an associate head coach.

H-SC will play its first home games on the renovated Tony Shaver Court in Diaz Arena at Kirby Field House when hosting the non-conference Charlie Cobb Classic next weekend on Nov. 22-23. The Tigers will play Mary Baldwin University on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 5:30 p.m., and then Pfeiffer (NC) University on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 4:30 p.m. Pfeiffer and Colorado College will play on Nov. 22 at 3 p.m., and Colorado College and Mary Baldwin will play on Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.
