HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College sophomore guard
Travis Stickney (Mount Pleasant, SC) has been named the
Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for season-opening games played the weekend of November 7-9. Travis averaged 4.0 steals along with 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to lead the 17th-ranked Tigers to a split of two neutral-site games at the TowneBank Tipoff Tournament in Virginia Beach.
Stickney, a 6-2 guard, posted a career-high and game-high seven steals during a 77-75 OT setback to (7)UW-La Crosse on Nov. 7, adding 13 points, a career-high and game-high eight rebounds as well as a game-high three assists. He followed with 14 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal during a 79-61 win past (RV)Keene State (NC) College on Nov. 8. Through two games, Stickney is averaging 38.0 minutes, while shooting 40% (10-25) on field goals, including 38% (3-8) on three-point field goals, and 67% (4-6) at the free throw line.
H-SC (1-1) will play on the road at Salisbury (MD) University on Wednesday, November 12, at 6 p.m. in Salisbury, Maryland.
