LEXINGTON, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College placed eighth out of eight teams with 25 points after competing in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Relays, Saturday afternoon at the W&L Natatorium. Washington and Lee University finished first in the relays on the men's side, putting up a total of 483.50 points.
In the first event of the afternoon, the Tigers had two teams competing in the 100 Yard Freestyle Relay, with the team of senior
Quinn Hardimon (Alexandria), senior
Cody Carnes (Hartfield), sophomore
Peter Gonzalez (Bakersfield, CA), and freshman
Quinlan Ragsdale (Charlottesville) placing 15th with a time of 43.76. Senior
Brandon Hyde (Thousand Oaks, CA), and sophomores
Ben Gerber (New Bern, NC),
Mason Brooking (Orange), and
Ronan Self (Bowling Green, KY) finished 18th with a time of 46.73.
The second event was the 3x50 Yard Butterfly Relay and the team of Hyde, Carnes, and Gonzalez placed 16th with a time of 1:17.42. Also competing in the event was the threesome of Self, Brooking, and Gerber, finishing in 19th with a time of 1:23.42.
Hyde, Hardimon, and Ragsdale were the top finishers for the Tigers in the 3x50 Yard Backstroke Relay, taking 11th place with a time of 1:19.62. Self, Gerber, and junior
Jackson Piazza (Birmingham, AL) were also competing in the event and posted a time of 1:28.86 to place 18th.
In the 400 Yard Freestyle relay, it was the foursome of Carnes, Hardimon, Gonzalez, and Ragsdale who were the top Tigers, placing 13th with a time of 3:27.98. Placing 19th in the event was Piazza, Brooking, and freshman
Samuel Schley (Santa Barbara, CA) and
Roger Adams (Chatam) with a time of 4:23.21.
H-SC grabbed a 15th and a 19th place finish in the 3x100 Yard Medley Relay, with the threesome of Carnes, Hyde, and Hardimon taking 15th with a time of 3:03.66. Taking 19th was the group of Piazza, Gonzalez, and Schley with a time of 3:36.81.
In the 500 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Tigers grabbed a 16th place finish as the foursome of Piazza, Brooking, Schley, and freshman
Quest Hennings (Cullen) finished with a time of 5:55.36.
The Tigers had one team competing in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as Piazza, Self, Gerber, and Schley took home 18th place with a time of 2:03.30.
In the 100 Yard Relay, the team of Gonzalez, Self, Brooking, and Ragsdale took home a 12th place finish after posting a time of 53.24 seconds.
In the final event of the afternoon, the 200 Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Carnes, Hardimon, Hyde, and Ragsdale finished with a time of 1:34.43 to place 13th.
The Tigers will be back in action when they take on Randolph College at 1 PM on Saturday, October 12. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at Sweet Briar College.
