FINAL RESULTS
VICTOR, N.Y. -- The nationally-ranked No. 20 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a final round of 300 on Monday for a 54-hole score of 881 (286-295-300) to move up one spot and finish 11th among 18 teams at the
Flower City Preview played at the Cobblestone Creek Country Club in Victor, New York and the Midvale Country Club in Penfield, New York (36 holes on Sunday). Senior team captain
Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) led the Tigers with his two-day, 54-hole score of even-par 72-71-73--216 that tied for 23rd individually among the 90 collegiate golfers.
Rubino posted four birdies and nine pars during his final round on the par 72 layout, finishing the two-day event with nine birdies and 36 pars. He was followed by fellow seniors
Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (70-73-77--220, T-37th) and
John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (71-75-75--221, T-45th), along with sophomores
Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (73-76-77--226, 62nd) and
Joseph Weinstein (Midlothian) (75-81-75--231, T-74th). Lott added three birdies and 10 pars, finishing with one eagle, eight birdies and 34 pars. Hutcheson had one eagle, two birdies and nine pars, finishing with the eagle, six birdies and 35 pars. Barnes had two birdies and nine pars, finishing with 10 birdies and 26 pars. Weinstein had two birdies and 11 pars, finishing with seven birdies and 28 pars.
The highly-competitive tournament field featured 12 of the Top 25 teams in Bushnell/Golfweek DIII Coaches Poll, including defending national champion and No. 1 Methodist (NC), national runner-up and No. 2 Carnegie Mellon (PA), No. 3 Emory (GA), No. 4 Oglethorpe (GA), No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 7 Washington and Lee, No. 13 Kenyon (OH), No. 16 Bethel (MN), No. 18 Guilford (NC), No. 20 Hampden-Sydney, and No. 23 Franklin & Marshall (PA). In addition, Rochester (NY), Berry (Ga), McDaniel (MD) and Hamilton (NY) participated in the tournament—each school receiving votes in the poll.
No. 3 Emory won the preview event with its 31-under par 270-275-288--833, while Aiden Spampinato of top-ranked Methodist was the individual medalist at 17-under par 68-66-65--199.
H-SC will compete again at the
Gate City Invitational on September 30-October 1, a two-day, 54-hole tournament to be played at the Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
