Adam Brazil, Josiah Hardy Named To 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College seniors Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) and Josiah Hardy (Ashburn) have each been named a member of the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) for NCAA Division III. The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
 
Adam Brazil is an English major at the College with a 3.81 GPA and is the 2023-24 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A second-year team captain, he started 33 of 34 games while averaging 13.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 32.2 minutes … shooting 42% (158-378) from the field, 40% (76-188) on three-point field goals and 88% (66-75) at the free throw line. He added 31 steals and was the team leader in three-pointers, three-point attempts, three-point percentage, free throw percentage, assists (127) and minutes (1096). Brazil posted career-highs of 27 points, 10 assists, five three-pointers and 38 minutes, along with season-highs of seven rebounds and four steals. He had 22 double-figure scoring games, a team-best 10 20-point games, and led the team in scoring 10 times and in assists 17 times with one double-double (assists). Brazil was named to the 2023-24 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III All-America Third Team, NABC All-District 6 First Team, D3hoops.com All-Region 6 First Team, ODAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player, All-ODAC First Team and was named to the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic All-Tournament Team. He led the ODAC in three-point percentage and assist/turnover ratio (2.76, 17th nationally), ranking third in free throw percentage, fifth in assists per game and seventh in three-pointers per game (2.2). Adam is a Dean's List student and member of both the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society (Alpha Omicron Chapter) and the Wilson Leadership Fellows Program, while recently invited to join Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honors Society. He is one of two Hampden-Sydney students on the College's Honor Courts' Appeals Committee, and was also a 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team honoree, while a three-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team (2021-23).
 
Josiah Hardy is an economics and business major at the College with a 3.62 GPA. A first-year team captain, he also started 33 of 34 games while averaging 7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 22.1 minutes … shooting 51% (108-214) from the field, 43% (3-7) on three-point field goals and 67% (37-55) at the free throw line. He added 36 steals and 10 blocks and posted career-highs of 20 points, 12 rebounds, four steals, two blocks and one three-pointer, along with season-highs of two assists and 31 minutes. Hardy had nine double-figure scoring games, including one 20-point game, and led the team in scoring one time and in rebounding five times with two double-doubles. He was named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team and was the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic Defensive MVP. Josiah is a Dean's List student, a Resident Advisor (RA), a member of the Honors Program and the Minority Student Union, and was also a 2022-23 CSC Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team honoree, while a three-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team (2021-23).

Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America® finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. Brazil is among those being considered for Academic All-America® honors. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 17, 2024.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-24 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA governance structure.
