The seventh-ranked Quakers are 26-4 overall after a 50-48 home win past defending national champion and No. 23 Christopher Newport in the quarterfinals on March 9 in Greensboro, North Carolina. Head Coach Caleb Kimbrough
H-SC is led by the fifth-year head coach who took over the program on April 4, 2019. The former head coach at Huntingdon (AL) College from 2016-19, Kimbrough is the 19th head coach in the 114-year history of the storied Hampden-Sydney program. He is no stranger to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), having played four years at Guilford and coached six years with the Quakers, and one year at Washington and Lee. Kimbrough is 82-37 overall at the College, including 45-23 in ODAC games. Caleb is a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III District 6 Coach of the Year (2023-24; 2022-23), and was the ODAC Men's Basketball Bob Johnson Coach of the Year last year, as well.

The 2024 ODAC Tournament Champions have 11-straight wins and 25 wins in their last 26 games overall. H-SC has attained a new school record for wins (30), and is enjoying its finest season in 21 years when the 2002-03 Tigers also advanced to the Final Four. The Garnet & Grey won their record-11th ODAC Tournament title on February 25, while playing in their record-16th ODAC championship game. H-SC has attained its first 30-win season and only its sixth 25-win season in program history, while the 17th overall 20-win season, also the second consecutive 20-win campaign to mark the first time since 2002-03 (28-4) and 2003-04 (25-5) with back-to-back 20-win seasons.
The Tigers are extremely balanced offensively with three players averaging in double-figure scoring among its five starters that are each scoring at least 6.2 points per game, while seven are playing 14-plus minutes among 10 playing nine-plus minutes per game. H-SC is shooting 46% (900-1946) from the field, including 36% (249-702) on three-point field goals (7.8 per game), and 75% (355-476) at the free throw line. The Tigers have averaged 75.1 points, and allowed only 58.3 points, for an impressive +16.8 scoring margin.

The Quakers, who received a Pool C at-large invitation, are coached by 21st-year head coach Tom Palombo. GC has been led by graduate guard and First Team All-American Tyler Dearman with his 20.1 points (72 3FGs), 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.4 steals, and graduate forward Julius Burch with his 11.2 points (55% FG) and 10.0 rebounds. The Quakers shoot 43% (720-1685) from the field, including 35% (248-713) on three-pointers, and 77% (381-497) at the line; scoring 69.0 points, and yielding only 56.1 points—a Division III best—for a +12.9 scoring margin.

H-SC and GC are playing for the 64th time since the Quakers joined the ODAC (1991-92). The Tigers lead the series at 38-25; however, GC has won two-straight and four of five ... including an

2023-24 NABC Honors
Davidson Hubbard was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III
All-America Second Team, and
Adam Brazil was named to the Division III
All-America Third Team, as announced on March 13. It's the first time in program history with two All-Americans in the same season. Hubbard and Brazil were also named to the
All-District 6 First Team—Hubbard was Second Team in 2022-23, while
Caleb Kimbrough was named the NABC
District 6 Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, as announced on March 12.

What An NCAA Tournament Debut
Shane Fernald has averaged 10.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists off the bench while playing in his first four career NCAA Tournament games. The 6-7, 260-pound forward is 20-25 from the field (80%) during his 58 minutes of total playing time, including a career-high 15 points (7-10 FGs, 1-1 FTs), along with three assists, two rebounds and one steal in 17 minutes against Rowan.
NCAA Tournament History
H-SC is making its 16th overall NCAA Tournament appearance since 1989, winning at least one game in 13 of the 16 years, while compiling an NCAA Tournament record of 24-16. The Tigers were National Runners-Up in 1999, falling to UW-Platteville 76-75 in double-overtime in the National Championship contest, and the Garnet & Grey advanced to the Final Four in 2003, falling to Gustavus Adolphus (MN) 79-68 in the National Semifinals, before falling to Wooster (OH) 78-74 in the third-place game. H-SC also advanced to the Elite Eight in 1995, while reaching the Sweet 16 in 1992, 1994 and 1998. The Tigers have hosted 22 NCAA Tournament games since 1992, compiling an impressive 17-5 record.
2024 ODAC Tournament Honors
Adam Brazil was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2024 ODAC Tournament after averaging 17.3 points (9 3FGs), 6.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists in three games. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by
Davidson Hubbard (18.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 7 3FGs, 5 blocks) and
Josiah Hardy (11.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 64% FGs).
2023-24 All-ODAC Honors
Davidson Hubbard and
Adam Brazil were each named First Team All-ODAC, while
Ryan Clements was named Third Team All-ODAC, as announced on Feb. 21. Clements was named All-ODAC for the third time—also Third Team in 2022-23 and Second Team in 2021-22, while Hubbard and Brazil were named All-ODAC for the second time—Hubbard was also First Team in 2022-23, and Brazil was Second Team last year.
2023-24 ODAC Scholar-Athlete Award
Adam Brazil garnered
ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors from the league's athletic communications personnel. Adam is an English major and Dean's List student with a 3.81 GPA, while a three-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team (2021-23).
100 Collegiate Coaching Wins
Caleb Kimbrough won his 100th game as a collegiate head coach with a 71-47 road win at Virginia Wesleyan on Feb. 14. Coach Kimbrough is currently 108-77 in eight years, including 82-37 in five seasons at H-SC.

D3hoops.com Top 25 (Feb. 26), earning all 25 first-place votes and 625 points in the poll. It marked the second consecutive and seventh week this season at No. 1, while the Tigers were ranked among the top five nationally for 10 of 12 weeks during 2023-24.

The Team Three-Point Stat
H-SC has made at least one three-point field goal in
491 consecutive games, dating back to a home game vs. Emory & Henry on Dec. 3, 2005 (0-1 3FGA). Ironically, the Tigers won that high-scoring contest 130-99. H-SC made a season-high 17 three-pointers vs. Rose-Hulman (IN) on Nov. 18 (17-36 3FGs), one of four games this season with 10-plus three-pointers.
Program History
H-SC is competing in its 114th-year of basketball during 2023-24. The Tigers began this season with an overall record of 1486-1093 since beginning in 1908, and currently are 1516-1095. H-SC has posted 63 winning seasons, 17 seasons with at least 20 wins, six seasons with at least 25 wins, has won a record 11 ODAC Tournament Championships and is making its 16th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. The Tigers have advanced to the Final Four two times previously, and to the National Championship once.

Griff Aldrich '96 is in his sixth year at Longwood. Through March 10, Turner was 289-178 at UCI (24-8 this season) ... Odom was 160-97 overall, including 19-12 at VCU this season, 44-25 in two years at USU and 97-60 in five years at UMBC ... Aldrich was 109-85 at Longwood (21-13 this season).
