HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. --Â Hampden-Sydney College has placed three Tigers on the
2023-24 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Basketball Team(s), as announced today by the conference office. Senior team captain
Adam Brazil (Mooresville, NC) and classmate
Davidson Hubbard (Charlotte, NC) were each named First Team All-ODAC, while fifth-year
Ryan Clements (Conyers, GA) was named Third Team All-ODAC. Brazil also garnered
ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors from the league's athletic communications personnel. Hubbard was a First Team honoree last season, Brazil was Second Team, and Clements was also Third Team a year ago, while a Second Team choice in 2021-22.
Adam Brazil is a second-year team captain who has started 24 of 25 games this season, averaging 13.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 32.1 minutes … shooting 46% (118-257) from the field, 44% (55-125) on three-point field goals and 85% (39-46) at the free throw line. He adds 24 steals and is the team leader in three-pointers, three-point attempts, three-point percentage, assists (91) and minutes (802). Brazil tied his career-high 23 points two times this season, along with a season-high six rebounds, a career-high 10 assists, a season-high four steals, tied his career-high five three-pointers and tied his career-high 38 minutes. He has posted 18 double-figure scoring games, including six 20-point games, and has led the team in scoring seven times and in assists 12 times with one double-double (assists). Brazil was named to the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic All-Tournament Team, and leads the ODAC in assist/turnover ratio (2.87, 19th nationally), ranks second in three-point percentage (.440), tied for fourth in assists per game and tied for sixth in three-pointers per game (2.2).
Academically, Adam is an English major (3.81 GPA), Dean's List student and member of both the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society (Alpha Omicron Chapter) and the Wilson Leadership Fellows Program, while recently invited to join Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honors Society. He is one of two Hampden-Sydney students on the College's Honor Courts' Appeals Committee, and was a 2022-23 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Team honoree, while a three-time member of the ODAC All-Academic Team (2021-23).
Davidson Hubbard has started 24 of 25 games, averaging 14.8 points, 7.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 28.8 minutes … shooting 48% (151-317) from the field, 32% (35-109) on three-pointers and 85% (34-40) at the line. He adds 25 steals and five blocks, and is the team leader in points (371), scoring average, field goals, field goal attempts, free throw percentage, rebounds (185), rebound average, offensive rebounds (48) and defensive rebounds (137). Hubbard has posted a career-high 31 points this season, along with tying a career-high 16 rebounds, adding season-highs of three assists, three steals and one block, tied a career-high four three-pointers and a career-high 37 minutes. He has posted 19 double-figure scoring games, including one 30-point game among six 20-point games, and has led the team in scoring 10 times and in rebounding 17 times with five double-doubles and 16 dunks. Hubbard was named to the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 Watch List, was the USBWA Division III National Player of the Week and ODAC Player of the Week, while named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week, and was also named the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic MVP. Davidson ranks sixth in the ODAC in rebounding and seventh in scoring.
Ryan Clements has started all 25 games, averaging 11.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 24.6 minutes … shooting 49% (92-189) from the field, 25% (9-36) on three-pointers and 84% (81-96) at the line. He adds 44 steals and six blocks, and is the team leader in field goal percentage, free throws, free throw attempts and steals. Clements has posted season-highs of 20 points and eight rebounds, tied a career-high eight assists, adding season-highs of five steals, one block and two three-pointers. He has posted 14 double-figure scoring games, including one 20-point game, and has led the team in scoring five times, in rebounding four times and in assists 12 times with 16 dunks. Clements is tied for third in the ODAC in steals, ranks sixth in free throw percentage and is tied for sixth in assists.
