Hampden-Sydney Finishes 4th At William Peace Invitational

RALEIGH, NC -- Hampden-Sydney College finished fourth out of eight teams at the William Peace Invitational that took place on November 22-23 at Pullen Aquatic Center. The field consisted of both Division II and III programs.

In the first relay event of the invite, the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the group of senior Cody Carnes (Hartfield), senior Matt Brooks (Springfield), junior Owen Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY), and freshman Quinlan Ragsdale (Charlottesville) placed eighth with a time of 1:36.97.  Senior Quinn Hardimon (Alexandria), senior Brandon Hyde (Thousand Oaks, CA), senior Cole Renfrow (Bowling Green, KY), and sophomore Mason Brooking (Orange) placed 10th in the event with a time of 1:47.37.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, the foursome of Carnes, Brooks, Hardimon, and Ragsdale placed eighth with a time of 1:30.00. Finishing in 10th was the team of senior Charles Adams (Mechanicsville), Cole Renfrow, Hyde, and Owen Renfrow with a time of 1:38.12.

H-SC had one team participating in the 800 Yard Freestyle Relay, as Carnes, Haridmon, and Cole, and Owen Renfrow finished sixth with a time of 7:53.41.

The foursome of Brooks, Carnes, Hardimon, and Ragsdale were the top finishers for the Tigers in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, placing seventh with a time of 3:20.22. Placing ninth in the event was Adams, Hyde, Brooks, and junior Jackson Piazza (Birmingham, AL) with their time of 3:48.38.

In the first individual event, the 500 Yard Freestyle, it was Hardimon being the top finisher for H-SC, taking 14th place with a time of 5:05.61. Cole Renfrow also competed in the event, taking 17th with a time of 6:00.95.

In the 200 Yard IM, Owen Renfrow grabbed a 22nd-place finish with a time of 2:13.07. Finishing right behind Renfrow was Hyde in 23rd with a time of 2:17.20.

Carnes grabbed a 12th place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle, posting a time of 22.18 seconds. Ragsdale was not far behind as he finished with a time of 22.39 seconds which was good for 15th. Brooks picked up points with his 23rd-place finish, posting a time of 23.24 seconds. Brooking posted a time of 25.26 seconds to place 30th, senior Carson Mann (Matthews, NC) finished 37th with a time of 27.04 seconds, and sophomore Roger Adams (Chatham) finished 38th with a time of 27.40 seconds.

Carnes took a fourth-place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly, picking up big points for the Tigers with a time of 51.96 seconds. Hyde was the next to finish in the event as he posted a time of 58.69 seconds to place 23rd. The final Tiger in the event was Charles Adams who finished in 25th with a time of 1:02.10.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Hardimon was the top finisher posting a time of 1:52.46 to finish in 22nd. Owen Renfrow was the next to finish for H-SC in 28th with a time of 1:57.82 followed by his brother Cole in 31st with a time of 2:05.87. Brooking grabbed a 35th place finish with a time of 2:11.50, Piazza grabbed 39th with a time of 2:17.43, Mann finished 41st with a time of 2:23.24, and Roger Adams finished 42nd with a time of 2:32.08.

Carnes grabbed a second fourth-place finish in the 200 Yard Butterfly after posting a time of 1:59.29. Charles Adams grabbed a 14th-place finish in the event after posting a time of 2:24.99.

Ragsdale was the top finisher for the Tigers in the 100 Yard Backstroke, as his time of 55.68 seconds was good for 14th. Hyde was the only other Tiger in the event, taking a 20th-place finish with a time of 58.95 seconds.

Owen Renfrow was the highest finisher in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, putting in a time of 1:03.06 to finish 18th. Next to finish for the Tigers was Cole Renfrow who put in a time of 1:07.01 to finish 22nd. Rounding out the event was Piazza with a time of 1:15.10 to finish 27th, Brooking grabbing 29th with a time of 1:17.36, and Mann taking 31st with a time of 1:22.50.

Hardimon was the lone participant in the 1650 Yard Freestyle, putting in a time of 17:52.61 to take 10th.

In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Brooks was the highest finishing Tiger after posting a time of 50.41 seconds to take 26th. Next to finish for the Tigers was Charles Adams in 34th with a time of 56.02 seconds, followed immediately by Brooking finishing in a tie for 35th with a time of 56.75 seconds. Rounding out the event was Mann in 43rd with a time of 1:02.40 and Roger Adams in 45th with a time of 1:03.10.

In the 200 Yard Backstroke, Ragsdale was the highest finisher for the Tigers after posting a time of 2:04.88 to finish 14th. He was followed by Hyde in 16th, who posted a time of 2:10.22.

In the final individual event of the invite, the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Owen Renfrow posted a time of 2:24.39 to take 17th, a position higher than his brother Cole's time of 2:31.55. Piazza was the final Tiger in the event, placing 20th with a time of 2:47.77.

The Tigers will be off until 2025, when they travel to take on Greensboro (NC) College on January 18. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Royce Reynolds Family Student Life Center Pool.
