No. 15 Hampden-Sydney Finishes Eighth At The O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament

FINAL RESULTS

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The nationally-ranked No. 15 Hampden-Sydney College Golf team posted a second-round score of 303 on Tuesday for a 36-hole team score of 616 (313-303) to finish eighth among 21 teams at The O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament played at The Cardinal by Pete Dye in Greensboro, North Carolina. Senior team captain Nick Rubino (Charlotte, NC) led the Tigers with his 75-74--149 that tied for 14th individually among the 108 collegiate golfers.

Rubino posted five birdies and eight pars during his final round on the 6,778-yard, par 71 layout, finishing the two rounds with eight birdies and 16 pars. He was followed by senior Rece Lott (Fort Worth, TX) (78-75--153, T-28th), freshman Oliver Tobin (Charlotte, NC) (79-79--158, T-52nd), senior John Hutcheson (Edina, MN) (84-75--159, T-56th) and sophomore Jack Barnes (Manakin Sabot) (81-81--162, T-72nd). Lott had one birdie and 13 pars during round two, finishing with three birdies and 23 pars. Tobin had three birdies and eight pars, finishing with seven birdies and 15 pars. Hutcheson had one birdie and 12 pars, finishing with two birdies and 20 pars. Barnes had three birdies and seven pars, finishing with four birdies and 15 pars.

The Tigers' round of 303 was the fourth-best team round of the day, while Rubino's three-over par 74 tied for the 11th-best individual round on Tuesday. Lott and Hutcheson tied for 14th-best among the 100-plus golfers with their respective final rounds of 75. Rubino tied for second in birdies (8) and tied for fifth in par 4 scoring (4.09, +2). Lott tied for third in pars (24). Tobin tied for sixth in birdies (7). Hutcheson tied for 17th in pars (21). Barnes tied for 18th in par 5 scoring (4.83, -1).

The tournament field featured four of the Top 10 among eight of the Top 25 teams in latest SCOREBOARD powered by clippd NCAA Division III Men's Golf rankings, including No. 3 Methodist (NC) University, who won the event with its 294-290--584. Daniel Suter of No. 16 Gettysburg (PA) College was the individual medalist at one-under par 71-70--141.

H-SC has completed its fall competition and will compete again next spring at the Savannah Invitational on March 3-4, 2025 at The Club at Savannah Harbor in Georgia.
