HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College senior defenseman
Nick Morgan (Issaquah, WA) has been named First Team All-State by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), while sophomore midfielder
Gaines Weis (Richmond) earned Second Team All-State honors.
Morgan adds another award this season with his First Team All-State honor. He has previously been recognized by the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) as a First Team All-ODAC defenseman, a First Team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA), a Third-Team All-American by USA Lacrosse Magazine, a First Team All-Region 4 by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA), a Scholar All-American by USILA, and the Gammon Cup winner. Nick's impact was felt defensively this season, causing 31 turnovers and picking up 44 ground balls, while scoring a goal to go along with two assists. In 11 of his 16 games this season, he caused two or more turnovers.
Weis adds a fourth award this season with his Second Team All-State honor. In addition, he was named First Team All-ODAC, First Team All-Region 4 by IMLCA, and a Third Team All-American by USILA. Gaines played in all 18 games this season for H-SC causing 21 turnovers and grabbing 34 ground balls. He scored seven goals and tallied eight assists for 15 points this season. He tallied a point in 10 of 18 games this season and caused a turnover in 11 games this season.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions.
