Hampden-Sydney Has 10 Named To 2023 All-ODAC Men's Lacrosse Teams

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College placed 10 student-athletes on the 2023 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) All-Conference Men's Lacrosse Teams, including four First Team, three Second Team, and three Third Team selections.

Those selected to the First Team were senior Nick Morgan (Issaquah, WA), juniors Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA) and Patrick Saunders (Alexandria), and sophomore Gaines Weis (Richmond). Earning Second Team honors were fifth-year goalie Will Perry (Roanoke), senior Nick Thompson (Midlothian), and junior Thomas Harry (Troy). Senior Jack Fechter (Potomac, MD), junior Michael Leone (Vienna), and sophomore Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) earned Third Team honors.

A preseason United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) First Team All-American, Morgan was named First Team All-ODAC for the second straight year, and third year as an All-ODAC honoree. He finished his senior year with a career-high 31 caused turnovers and grabbed 44 ground balls. Morgan started all 16 games that he played, scoring one goal and adding two assists. On one of the best defenses in the ODAC this season, Morgan was a key piece, often being tasked with shutting down the opposition's top threat.

O'Brien earned First Team All-ODAC honors for the first time after earning Second Team All-ODAC a year ago. O'Brien had his best scoring season and second-best point total, scoring 46 goals and tallying 21 assists for 67 points. He tallied seven points twice this season, scoring four goals and three assists against Catholic University on March 11 and five goals and two assists against Virginia Wesleyan University on April 8.

Saunders earned his first All-ODAC honors this season with a First Team All-ODAC selection. He had a career year, scoring 16 goals and adding 14 assists for 30 points from the midfield. The junior started all but one game, grabbing 14 ground balls and causing seven turnovers for the first-line midfield. In one of his best performances of the season, Saunders scored three goals and added an assist against Roanoke College on April 22, to help H-SC clinch a top-two seed in the ODAC tournament.

Weis also earns his first All-ODAC honors in his second season with the program with a First Team selection. Weis had a career year on both sides of the ball, scooping up 34 ground balls and causing 21 turnovers on defense while scoring seven goals and dishing out eight assists. He had a stand-out week in wins over Ohio Northern University on March 25 and Randolph Macon College on April 18, with a combined stat line of six ground balls, four caused turnovers, one goal, and two assists, which earned him Player of the Week honors from the ODAC.

Perry earns Second Team All-ODAC for the second straight season after another good season in net. The fifth-year make 149 saves over 840:11 minutes, posting a career-best 9.57 goals against average and a 9-5 record. His best game this season, came in the quadruple overtime win over Washington and Lee University on March 29. Perry made 15 saves, including three in overtime to secure the win for the Tigers. His performance against the Generals earned him Player of the Week honors by the ODAC.

Following an injury in 2022, Thompson returned and posted a career year to earn Second Team All-ODAC honors for the first time. He took the majority of the face-offs this season, going 112-234 and scooping up 97 ground balls for a career-high. Thompson also scored 13 goals and added 18 assists for 31 total points, all career highs for the senior. He made a major contribution in the win over Roanoke, going 11-24 on face-offs with 11 ground balls and dishing out four assists.

Harry is another Tiger who had a career year and earned All-ODAC honors for the first time with a spot on the second team. A key piece of the Tigers' defense, Harry caused 26 turnovers and picked up 36 ground balls. He also contributed offensively as well, scoring a goal and adding two assists. He had a great game against Bridgewater College on April 5, causing six turnovers and scooping up seven ground balls to keep the Eagles to only five goals. He followed up with a five-ground ball and three caused turnover game against Virginia Wesleyan University on April 8, to grab ODAC Player of the Week honors.

Fechter earns Third Team All-ODAC honors for the second straight year after having a career-best season in the Tigers' defensive unit. He caused a career-best 24 turnovers, and a career-best 44 ground balls, and scored the first two goals of his career. In the win over Washington and Lee, Fechter had a great performance scooping up six ground balls and causing three turnovers.

Leone earns Third Team All-ODAC honors for the first time in his career, after seeing an increased role in the offense this season. He scored a career-high 54 points, with career-highs in both goals and assists with 31 goals and 23 assists. He also scooped up 23 ground balls this season. Leone scored a season-high five goals to help lead H-SC to a win over Randolph-Macon.

Kilfeather earns Third Team All-ODAC honors this season after being named ODAC Rookie of the Year last season. Kilfeather was a key piece of the Tigers' defensive midfield unit, causing 29 turnovers and grabbing 39 ground balls. He also added offense as well, scoring five goals and tallying three assists. He had one of his better games against Roanoke, as he caused three turnovers and grabbed three ground balls while scoring a goal.
