Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Hampden-Sydney Wins At Guilford (NC) 24-4

GREENSBORO, NC -- Junior Bryce Harnsberger (Advance, NC) scored three goals and added one assist, and freshman Scott Thompson (Charlotte, NC) scored three times to help lead Hampden-Sydney College to a 24-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory at Guilford (NC) College on Saturday afternoon.

It took just over four minutes into the game for the first goal to be scored, with junior Kavin Wood (Cary, NC) scoring off the assist from freshman Brown Parker (Raleigh, NC). Parker then went from assisting to scoring just before the nine-minute mark, as he capitalized on the pass from senior Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC). Under 30 seconds later, the lead was pushed to three, as sophomore Cole Palmer (Atlanta, GA) caused a turnover on the clear attempt for Guilford, and after picking up the loose ball, took it himself for the goal. The Tigers then rattled off three goals in less than a minute, starting with junior Jacob Messinger (Charlottesville) finding junior Kevin Myers (Charlottesville) for the goal. Then on the ensuing face-off, Palmer scored his second of the day off the pass from junior Will Thompson (Charlotte, NC), and then closing the run was freshman Brenden Kittner (Freeland, MD) scoring off a Wood feed. H-SC then closed the quarter with two goals in the final minute, with senior Davis Mack (Henrico) scoring from Messinger, and sophomore Nick Esposito (Yardley, PA) scoring off the assist from sophomore Nick Winchell (Wilmington, DE) with 15 seconds remaining to make it 9-0 after 15 minutes.

The second quarter started how the first ended, with Winchell connecting with Esposito to get the scoring started. Less than a minute later, it was sophomore Kaidan Garst (Salem) connecting with Harnsberger to push the lead to double digits. Winchell dished out the next two assists, first finding Will Thompson for the goal, and then Parker for his second to make it 14 unanswered goals for H-SC. The Quakers ended the run just before the five-minute mark of the quarter, but H-SC came right back, scoring twice in just over a minute, the first coming when freshman Nick D'Alessandro (West Chester, PA) found junior Weston Totty (Salem), and then freshman Trevor Maham (Lorton) scored to make it 14-1. Guilford ended the quarter with three goals in just over three minutes to make it 14-4 going into halftime.

The Tigers stopped the Guilford run just over two minutes into the second half, as freshman Max Schneider (Woodford) put home the Garst pass. Just over six minutes later, Harnsberger struck for the second time to push the lead to 12. H-SC followed up that goal with two goals in 32 seconds, both coming on the man advantage, with the first being scored by Mack off the pass from fifth year Harry Deller (Baltimore, MD) and the second being the first goal of the afternoon for Scott Thompson. Scott Thompson then doubled his tally one and a half minutes later to make it five unanswered for H-SC. The Tigers then capped off the scoring in the third with two goals in the final 35 seconds, the first coming when junior Alex Wagner (Cary, NC) scored off the Messinger pass, and the second being the hat trick for Harnsberger to make it 21-4 going into the fourth.

It took just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter for Scott Thompson to secure his hat trick, with Totty adding another just over two minutes later off a Harnsberger pass. The final goal of the contest was scored at the 9:19 mark when freshman Tre Carter (Jacksonville, FL) scored his first career goal to make it 24-4 in favor of the Tigers.

Senior goalie Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA) got the win in net, making one save over the first 15 minutes. Junior Matthew Dryer (Severna Park, MD) made five saves over the next 30 minutes, with freshman Hastings Fava (Severna Park, MD) making three saves over the final 15 minutes.

The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday, April 15, when they travel to Lynchburg to take on Randolph College in ODAC action. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at WildCat Stadium.
