Washington and Lee got to the semifinal after defeating seventh-seeded Shenandoah University 22-8 on May 2, in the quarterfinals. In the meeting between H-SC and Washington and Lee during the regular season, it was the Tigers who took an 11-10 win in quadruple overtime. This will be the second straight year that these two sides will meet in the semifinals of the ODAC tournament. Last season the Tigers as the fifth seed upset the top-seeded Generals, 8-7, to make it to the ODAC championship.

Hampden-Sydney comes into the matchup having won eight of its last nine games to boast a 13-4 overall record. Washington and Lee comes in with a 14-4 overall record and has won its last eight games. The Generals' last loss came at the hands of the Tigers just over a month ago.

The Tigers come in with a well-rounded attack, with six players scoring 15 or more goals, headlined by the three-headed goal-scoring attack of junior Ray O'Brien (Scituate, MA), junior Michael Leone (Vienna), and senior Talmadge Hope (Richmond). O'Brien leads the Tigers with 46 goals while placing second on the team in assists with 20. Leone has scored 31 and leads the team in assists with 23 while Hope has 25 goals, after picking up a bigger role in the offense following the injury to junior Ford Burke (Richmond).

H-SC is getting 16 goals each this season from junior Patrick Saunders (Alexandria) and freshman Patrick Hanes (Raleigh, NC). Along with his face-off duties, senior Nick Thompson (Midlothian) is tied for third on the team in points with 31, scoring 13 goals and tallying 18 assists.

In the matchup earlier this season against Washington and Lee, O'Brien scored three goals and Hope scored two, accounting for five of the 11 goals scored by the Tigers. Hanes added two goals, Saunders tallied two assists and Leone led the team with three assists.

The face-off dot will be a key factor for H-SC against the Generals with Thompson and freshman Connor Erlenbach (Midlothian) looking to give the Tigers the edge. Against Washington and Lee, the sides were an even 13-26 on face-offs, with Thompson going 12-22 and Erlenbach going 1-4. Thompson has been the go-to guy on the face-off unit, taking 220 face-offs and winning 106, with Erlenbach being second with a 61-116 record. Freshman Evan Yntema (Summerfield, NC) could also see time at the face-off dot and has won 49 of 86 face-offs.

Senior Nick Morgan (Issaquah, WA) will lead one of the best defenses in not only the ODAC, but the country and will be tasked with shutting down the Generals' top offensive options. The preseason United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) First Team All-American leads the Tigers with 28 caused turnovers and has grabbed 42 ground balls. Sophomore Conor Kilfeather (Wyndmoor, PA) has also been a problem for opposing players, causing 27 turnovers to go along with 36 ground balls.

H-SC has three more on the defensive unit that have caused 20 or more turnovers this season. Junior Thomas Harry (Alexandria) has been a key piece of the defense causing 25 turnovers and grabbing 33 ground balls. He earned ODAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period of April 3-9, helped by a six-caused turnover and seven ground ball performance against Bridgewater College. Senior Jack Fechter (Potomac, MD) has been a strong presence on defense, causing 23 turnovers this season and grabbing 43 ground balls. Sophomore Gaines Weis (Richmond) is the final Tiger with 20 or more caused turnovers this season, causing 20 turnovers and grabbing 33 ground balls. He has also made an impact on the other side of the field scoring seven goals and adding eight assists. Weis is another defensive player to earn Defensive Player of the Week honors from the ODAC, during the March 13-19 period.

The goalkeeping duties will be assigned to fifth-year Will Perry (Roanoke) who is having one of his best years this season, only allowing 9.08 goals when in the net. Against the Generals, he made key saves at point-blank range in overtime to keep H-SC alive. In the game, he made 15 saves over 72:29 minutes only allowing 10 goals. His performance against the Generals led him to win ODAC Defensive Player of the Week honors during the period of March 27-April 2. Perry on the season has made 136 saves over 780:11 minutes in goal with a .535 save percentage. He has a 9-4 record in goal this season.
