Scouting No. 1 Randolph-Macon
The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 1 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, are coached by seventh-year head coach Josh Merkel and last played on Jan. 25 at home against ODAC member Bridgewater, winning 80-51. R-MC has won nine-straight games since its lone setback on the road at Christopher Newport in overtime back on November 28 (2021), 77-76. The Yellow Jackets have been led by three-time All-American and ODAC Player of the Year, fifth-year guard Buzz Anthony (38 3FGs), who is averaging 19.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 7.1 assists, and 1.9 steals. Other top scorers have been junior All-American and forward Miles Mallory (15.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.7 blocks) and junior guard Josh Talbert (12.5 points, 4.2 assists). R-MC shoots 50% (486-965) from the field, including 37% (126-341) on three-pointers, and 69% (133-194) at the line; scoring 76.9 points, and yielding just 59.2 points, for a +17.8 scoring margin.

Series History vs. Randolph-Macon

R-MC has won eight-straight games between the two schools, including 79-65 last Jan. 30, 2021 in Ashland. The last win in the series by the Tigers was a 63-56 decision on February 1, 2017 in Fleet Gym.

Tigers Hosted No. 1 Yellow Jackets In 2010
H-SC previously hosted R-MC when it was top-ranked on January 6, 2010, falling 69-68 on a last-second three-pointer by the Yellow Jackets. The Tigers led 33-27 at halftime, extended their lead to 53-37 with 11:36 remaining, and still led 68-64 with 1:26 left. Unfortunately, R-MC scored the game's final five points during the last 53-seconds, including the game-winning three-pointer with just 4.9-seconds on the clock, to escape with the road victory.
