#1 RMC RALLIES TO TAKE 69-68 WIN IN FLEET

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (January 6, 2010)—Hampden-Sydney led the #1 team in the nation by 16 points in the second half, but the furious rally by RandolphRandolph-Macon proved to be too much and was capped off by the game-winning three pointer from Adam Desgain with 4.9 seconds to play in regulation. Tiger freshman Harrison George (Raleigh, NC/Leesville) led all scorers with 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field.

The Jackets were the first to score off of a Kevin Voelkel lay up, but Karlis Trops (Riga, Latvia/Charlotte Latin) responded hitting two free throws. The game continued to go back-and-forth with three more ties over the next four minutes resulting in an 8-8 tie at the 15:58 mark.

Jordan Brown converted a lay up to give the Jackets a lead they would increase as much as six as they held a 20-14 advantage at the 9:35 mark.

The Tigers then outscored Randolph-Macon 19-6 to close the half taking a 33-27 lead into the locker room. The run was started off by five straight points from George, and ended beautifully in the Tigers favor when Randall Ward (Richmond, VA/John Marshall) drove the lane, and finished the lay up with the foul to convert the three point play.

The Tigers didn't let up to start the second half, as Ben Jessee (Midlothian, VA/Cosby) hit a three pointer to start the scoring, followed by a George lay up to put the Tigers up 38-27. Brandon Braxton hit two free throws to put the Tiger lead down to 38-29, but Hampden-Sydney used the next four minutes to push its lead up to 48-33.

Hampden-Sydney again extended the lead to 51-35 on a Lane Medlin (West Point, VA/Fork Union)three pointer.

Randolph-Macon, however, began to rally and went on a 13-2 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 53-48. Alex Potapov (Moscow, Russia/Florida Air) scored the next four points for the Tigers, but Randolph-Macon responded with nine points of its own to tie the game at 57 with 5:13 to play.

Potapov, George and Turner King (Roanoke, VA/Roanoke Catholic) kept scoring to maintain the Tiger lead and two Jessee free throws gave the Tigers a 68-64 cushion with 1:26 remaining.

33 seconds later, Jordan Brown hit two free throws to put the game at 68-66 with under a minute to play.

The Tigers could not convert on the offensive end, setting up Adam Desgain to hit the dagger with just under five seconds left improving the #1 Yellow Jackets to 12-0 and 4-0 in the ODAC.

George led all scorers with 19 points and snared a game-high eight rebounds. while Potapov had a breakout game with 14 points and five rebounds. King also tallied 16 points. The Tigers were 28-of-58 (48.3%) from the field but just 3-of-12 (25%) from beyond the arc.

Randolph-Macon was led by Jordan Brown and Danny Jones who each had 12 points while Kevin Voelkel had 11 and Eric Pugh and Brandon Braxton scored 10 points a piece. The Jackets were 45.7% (21-46) from the field and 29.4% (5-17) from deep.

The Tigers were 9-of-12 from the foul line while Randolph-Macon connected on 22-of-25 attempts.

Hampden-Sydney, which falls to 5-7 and 1-3 in the ODAC, returns home for its next contest against Emory and Henry College on Saturday, January 9. Tip off is set for 2:00 pm.
