SCHEDULE UPDATE: Hampden-Sydney Will Play At Lynchburg On Tuesday Night In Non-Conference Action

Scheduled home game moved to Lynchburg due to continued power outages on H-SC campus

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney College will play on the road at the University of Lynchburg in non-conference action on Tuesday night, February 16, at 7 p.m. in Lynchburg. Originally scheduled as a home game in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium at Kirby Field House, the contest has been moved to Lynchburg due to continued power outages on the H-SC campus from this past weekend's winter ice storm. It will be the sixth-straight road game for the visiting Tigers, who are 1-4 overall, while the host Hornets are 3-2 overall. The contest will be available to watch via the Lynchburg Hornets Sports Network.

Scouting the Tigers
H-SC is competing in its second season under the direction of head coach Caleb Kimbrough, who is assisted by Bryson Gibson, Daniel Eacho and Quinn Newton, and are playing tonight after a recent pause in the schedule in accordance with the College's Health and Safety Protocols. The Tigers won their first game of the season, and most recent game played, at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member Emory & Henry by a score of 76-62 on February 5 in Emory. H-SC has been led by senior captain Jake Hahn/Ruckersville, averaging 13.8 points and 8.2 rebounds; freshman DJ Wright/Greensboro, GA, averaging 12.6 points along with a team-best 15 three-point field goals (47%); classmate Josiah Hardy/Ashburn, averaging 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds; sophomore Ryan Clements/Conyers, GA, averaging 8.8 points and 3.0 rebounds; and junior Jack Wyatt/Richmond, averaging 7.4 points and 4.8 rebounds. The Tigers are shooting 40% (126-313) from the field, including 30% (28-93) on three-pointers, and 77% (48-62) at the free throw line, while averaging 65.6 points and allowing 72.2 points.

Scouting the Hornets
Lynchburg is coached by 13th-year head coach Hilliary Scott, and they, too, have endured a recent pause in the schedule. The Hornets have dropped two-straight games since returning from their pause, most recently a 69-47 ODAC road loss at Washington and Lee on Feb. 14. Lynchburg has been led by seniors T.C. Thacker (16.3 points, 15.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists) and Tharon Suggs (15.8 points, 4.3 assists). Thacker has not played in the last two games, while Suggs missed the first game back before playing at W&L. Lynchburg is shooting 39% (129-328) from the field, including 28% (35-125) on three-pointers, and 70% (66-94) at the line, while averaging 71.8 points and allowing 72.8 points.

ODAC Series History vs. Lynchburg
H-SC and Lynchburg are playing for the 89th time as ODAC opponents since the 1976-77 season. The Tigers lead the conference series at 65-23, though the Hornets have won the last nine games played between the two programs since 2015-16, including last month by a score of 84-69 on January 27 in Lynchburg.

Jake Hahn posted his first double-double of the season with 18 points and 13  rebounds, but H-SC dropped an 84-69 ODAC decision on the road at Lynchburg. Jack Wyatt and Ryan Clements each added 13 points for the visiting Tigers, who trailed just 34-32 at halftime. Tharon Suggs scored a game-high 21 points for the host Hornets.
 
Hahn led H-SC with his team-highs of 18 points and 13 rebounds, also a game-high, adding three assists. Wyatt and Clements each finished with 13 points for the Tigers, with Wyatt adding nine rebounds and Clements adding game-highs of five assists and four steals. H-SC shot 39% (26-66) from the field, including 33% (6-18) on three-pointers, and 73% (11-15) at the free throw line.

Suggs led Lynchburg with his game-high 21 points. T.C. Thacker finished with a double-double of 17 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Hornets. Lynchburg shot 40% (26-65) from the field, including 39% (10-26) on three-pointers, and 82% (22-27) at the line.

Up Next - Another Schedule Change
H-SC will play its seventh consecutive game on the road when it travels to play at ODAC member Virginia Wesleyan University on Friday evening, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m. in Virginia Beach. A previously-scheduled conference home game against archrival Randolph-Macon College on Feb. 19 has been canceled due to health and safety protocols.
