Hampden-Sydney Plays At Ferrum Tuesday Night

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Hampden-Sydney College will play its fourth consecutive road game to begin the 2021 campaign at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent Ferrum College on Tuesday night, February 2, at 7 p.m. in Ferrum. The visiting Tigers are 0-3 overall, 0-2 in the ODAC, while the host Panthers are 2-3 overall, 1-2 in the ODAC. Scouting the Tigers
H-SC is competing in its second season under the direction of head coach Caleb Kimbrough, who is assisted by Bryson Gibson, Daniel Eacho and Quinn Newton. The Tigers fell on the road in non-ODAC action at archrival Randolph-Macon by a score of 79-65 on January 30 in Ashland—a contest scheduled just 24 hours prior. H-SC has been led through its first three games by senior captain Jake Hahn/Ruckersville, averaging 16.0 points and 8.3 rebounds; standout freshman DJ Wright/Greensboro, GA, averaging 13.7 points off the bench with a team-best 11 three-point field goals (55%); junior Jack Wyatt/Richmond averaging 8.3 points and 4.3 rebounds; and freshman Josiah Hardy/Ashburn averaging 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds off the bench. The Tigers are shooting 39% (74-188) from the field, including 37% (21-57) on three-pointers, and 74% (20-27) at the free throw line, while averaging 63.0 points and allowing 76.3 points.

Scouting the Panthers
FC is coached by fourth-year head coach Tyler Sanborn, a former assistant coach at H-SC (2012-17), who is assisted by Anthony White Jr.. Coach Sanborn and Coach Kimbrough were teammates at Guilford College for two seasons (2006-08). The Panthers won their first conference game at home against Bridgewater by a score of 65-62 on Jan. 30. FC has been led through its first five games by senior James Smith Jr., averaging 16.3 points and 4.3 rebounds; junior Darius Kemp, averaging 13.4 points and 7.0 rebounds; senior Kajuan Madden-McAfee, averaging 12.4 points and 7.8 rebounds; and classmate Nick Helton, averaging 12.4 points. The Panthers are shooting 43% (116-267) from the field, 33% (42-129) on three-pointers, and 58% (57-99) at the line, while averaging 66.2 points and allowing 67.6 points.

ODAC Series History vs. Ferrum
H-SC and FC are playing for just the fourth time as ODAC opponents since the Panthers joined the conference prior to the 2018-19 season. FC leads the ODAC series, 2-1, though the Tigers won the only game played between the two programs last season by a score of 74-68 on Jan. 29, 2020 in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium.

Last Time They Played (1/29/20)
Jack Wyatt scored 21 points to lead H-SC to a hard-fought 74-68 ODAC home win past FC. The host Tigers led 35-30 at halftime en route to their fourth-straight win and 11th win in the last 13 games overall. Kevin Quinn finished with 16 points for H-SC, including 4-8 three-pointers, and Jake Hahn had 14 points and eight rebounds, adding career-highs and game-highs of eight assists and four steals. H-SC shot 51% (28-55) from the field, including 44% (10-23) on three-pointers, and 80% (8-10) at the line.
 
Kajuan Madden-McAfee led FC with a game-high 26 points, including 8-15 three-pointers, adding nine rebounds. Nick Helton finished with 11 points for the Panthers, while Carrington Young had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds. FC shot 46% (25-54) from the field, including 41% (15-37) on three-pointers, and 50% (3-6) at the line.
 
ODAC Weekly Honor Roll
DJ Wright earned mention on this week's ODAC Weekly Honor Roll. Wright has played well off the bench through his first three collegiate games, averaging 13.7 points while shooting a team-best 55.0% (11-20) from three-point territory with one 20-point game among two double-figure scoring games. His 11 three-pointers lead the team, as well, including an impressive 6-8 effort from beyond the arc at Randolph-Macon on Jan. 30 while scoring a career-high 22 points.

H-SC is scheduled to play on the road at ODAC member Emory & Henry College on Friday, Feb. 5, at 5 p.m. in Emory. The Tigers are slated to play their first home game against visiting conference opponent Shenandoah University on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. in S. Douglas Fleet Gymnasium. ODAC Spectator Policy for Indoor Sports
The ODAC Presidents Council has endorsed a conference policy that prohibits spectators at any ODAC indoor athletic event for the upcoming spring campaign.
