Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College swept the three doubles matches, before splitting the six singles matches, for a 6-3 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis road win at Virginia Wesleyan University on Thursday in Virginia Beach. The visiting Tigers improved to 7-9 overall, 6-1 in the ODAC, while the host Marlins dropped to 11-7 overall, also 6-1 in the ODAC.
In doubles, junior brothers Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. won at No. 1, 8-2. Junior Grayson Burns/Waynesboro and sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg won at No. 2, 8-3. Junior Clark Cummings/Norfolk and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. won at No. 3, 8-6.
In singles, Michael Moody won at No. 2 by scores of 6-3, 6-2. Cummings won at No. 5 by scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Brice won at No. 6 by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Matthew Moody fell at No. 1 by scores of 2-6, 5-7. Driskill fell at No. 3 by scores of 2-6, 3-6. Burns fell at No. 4 by scores of 4-6, 0-6.
"Clark (Cummings) and I were up 7-4 and handled the momentum swing to be able to serve it out at 8-6, following #1 and #2 doubles wins to go up 3-0 into singles," said Tyler Brice. "I think in singles we did a good job winning a few big matches, especially with only winning first sets at 2 and 6."
H-SC is scheduled to host Roanoke College on Saturday, April 13, at 10:45 a.m. at the Tennis Courts. A scheduled home match against Guilford College on Sunday, April 14, has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, at 3 p.m.
