Box Score 2 HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Senior Tyler Blevins/Draper and junior Andrew Kasiski/Chesapeake each had a hit and an RBI in the first game, while junior Chase Counts/Virginia Beach hit a three-run home run in the second game, but Hampden-Sydney College dropped a non-conference baseball doubleheader to Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) College on Sunday at Yank Bernier Field at the Ty Cobb Ballpark - Wurdeman Stadium. Junior Cameron Meyers/Benson, N.C. took the pitching setback in relief in the 2-3 opener for the host Tigers (2-3), while sophomore Bradford Webb/Charlotte Court House took the defeat in the 4-10 nightcap against the visiting Diplomats (2-0).
In game one, H-SC had two runs on six hits … scoring both runs in the first inning. The Tigers led 2-1 into the seventh of the scheduled seven-inning contest, only to witness F&M score a run and force extra innings, and the Diplomats plated the winning run in the ninth with two outs.
In the first, Kasiski (1-4, 2B, RBI) doubled to score senior Blake Hartman/Chester (1-4), who had singled, and Blevins (1-3, 3B, RBI) followed with a triple to plate Kasiski.
Meyers (0-1) tossed the final two innings, allowing two hits and one run, earned, with one strikeout and no walks. Junior Chase Mayberry/Appomattox started and pitched the first 7.0 solid innings, scattering seven hits and two runs, one earned, with seven strikeouts and one walk.
In game two, H-SC had four runs on six hits … scoring all four runs in the first inning. The Tigers led 4-1 into the third of the scheduled seven-inning contest, before F&M scored four runs in the third, two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
In the first, freshman Mark Evans/Yorktown (1-2, 2B) led off with a double and later crossed the plate via a throwing error. Counts (1-3, HR, 3 RBIs) added a three-run home run to left field, scoring junior Jonathan Triesler/Chesterfield (0-3) and Kasiski (1-3), who had reached on the error and was hit-by-a-pitch, respectively. It was the first homer of the season at home for the Tigers, easily clearing the fence in left.
Webb (1-1) started and pitched the first 4.1 innings, scattering seven hits and six runs, all earned, with three strikeouts and three walks. Freshman Kieran Conway/Chesapeake tossed 1.0 inning, yielding three hits and four runs, all earned, with one strikeout and one walk. Senior Trey Celata/Chesapeake tossed two-thirds of an inning, yielding one hit with no strikeouts and no walks. Freshman Ethan Badin/Richmond pitched the final scoreless inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout and no walks.
H-SC is scheduled to play again on the road at non-league opponent Marymount University on Wednesday, February 27, at 1 p.m. at the Nationals Youth Academy in Washington, D.C.
